Position Summary

Reporting to the Senior Manager, People Relations, the Specialist, People Relations will serve as a point of contact for employees and managers for employee relations, labor relations, and investigations. This role serves HR-related employee interaction and is responsible for performing HR-related duties on a professional level working closely with employees and management with guidance from the Senior Manager, People Relations.

Key Responsibilities

COMPLIANCE WITH HR POLICIES:

  • Thoroughly and expeditiously conduct fair, unbiased, and consistent investigations related to but not limited to Pass Travel related incidents, procedure, and policy violations.
  • Review recommended appropriate course of action with the Senior Manager; People Relations based on the outcome of investigations.
  • Provides administrative support and creates, organizes, and maintains employee relations files and records, including employee relations logs, records, and internal SOPs.

Retention And Engagement

  • Partners with employees, management, and union leaders to communicate various Human Resources policies, procedures, laws, standards, and government regulations.
  • Conducts exit interviews as needed and analyzes data and makes recommendations to management for corrective action and continuous improvement.
  • Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs such as awards and recognition.
  • Presence in the operations to build and foster HR support for operational employee groups.
  • Identify trends with work groups, employees, and leaders that will improve the employee value proposition.
  • Collaborate with Labor Relations on grievance intake for unionized employees.

Management Support

  • Respond to inquiries that require research into finding an answer that can be provided through documentation or senior HR leader.
  • Provide guidance on Hawaiian Airlines’ policies and procedures, collective bargaining agreements (CBA), and labor & employment laws to ensure compliance and promote consistent practices throughout the organization.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors’ degree in a related field and 1 year of experience working in employee relations, HR generalist, or related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and related working experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to keep information confidential and commitment to produce high quality work.
  • Proven ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Must be able to travel to both domestic and international regions.
  • Hawaiian Airlines is regulated by the Department of Transportation (DOT - regulation, 49 CFR part 40) and all applicants are advised that post-offer and/or pre-employment drug testing will be conducted to determine the presence of Marijuana, Cocaine, Opioids, PCP (Phencyclidine), and Amphetamine prior to any offer of employment or transfer into a safety-sensitive position. Failure to submit to testing or positive indications of drug use will render the applicant ineligible for employment with Hawaiian Airlines and any employment offer will be withdrawn.
  • In addition to routine employment eligibility verification, U.S.-based airlines must gather information to validate country of citizenship and country of birth. Upon hire, you must provide documentation proving your current country of citizenship and birthplace.

Please note that the provided salary information serves as a general guideline. Our salary is determined by a candidate's experience and qualifications as well as market and business considerations. The expected pay range is $70,000 - $92,000.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Airline or other service industry experience
  • Experience with unions, grievance process, and relevant local labor unions
  • Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organization’s HRIS and talent management systems.
  • PHR/SPHR strongly preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with an emphasis on tact and diplomacy
  • Ability to prioritize multiple functions, tasks, and manage work on time.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Proven ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply the appropriate sections of applicable laws, guidelines, regulations, ordinances, and policies.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work with high attention to detail.
  • Background in employment law and other government compliance regulations
