We are looking for a highly motivated person for our Winnipeg Commodity Taxes Analyst position. This person will report to the Director, Commodity Taxes / Audit, Compliance & Accounting.
Description
- Support commodity, passenger and fuel tax audits (taxes and fees of all nature including, federal, excise, provincial, property, state as well as international taxes and fees) to ensure that Air Canada and its subsidiaries minimize the commodity taxes reassessments / maximize refunds.
- Perform Commodity Taxes accounts analysis and provide required information to the director and Managers, Commodity Taxes and / or for submissions to, or negotiations with, tax authorities.
- Assist the Director and Managers, Commodity Taxes in the implementation and development of corporate tax policies and ensure compliance with those policies.
- Verify / audit commodity, passenger and fuel taxes compliance on a global basis including tax compliance for Air Canada and its subsidiaries.
- Analyze Commodity Taxes exception reports and systems such as PAICE to maximize the tax recoveries
- Support the implementation of new tax legislation.
- Verify corporate compliance with the changes in tax rates and relevant changes in legislation.
- Perform the adequate procedures to identify overpayments or refundable payments of taxes and duties included in charges of the Corporation, as well as reconcile the appropriate Commodity Taxes accounts.
- Develop guidelines, training materials, job aids for internal departments as required.
- Monitor the status of outstanding PRA system trouble tickets and IRFs.
- Assist Managers Commodity Taxes for initial and on-going systems compliance with tax legislation. Systems include AC Web, GDS ticketing systems, Revenue Accounting system, WebFocus, PeopleSoft, ARIBA, Employee travel, EDI interface to AP, PAICE, etc.
- Assist the Directors, and Managers, Commodity Taxes with related duties.
Qualifications
- Undergraduate or Graduate degree in Business or Finance
- CA, CGA, CMA designation preferred.
- Proficient in Excel (formulas; functions ex. v lookups, pivots and if statements)
- Experience in utilizing other data analytic tools (IDEA, Power Query and Power BI ect)
- Work experience in the commodity tax field is an asset.
- Knowledge of all Canadian federal and provincial commodity tax legislation (e.g., GST/HST, QST, PST) is an asset.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work with others.
- Excellent communication skills / oral and written.
- Demonstrated record of initiative and work ethic.
- Good organizational skills and ability to work under pressure.
