Espen Bakke-Aas Steiro (41) has had a long and diverse career at Widerøe. He started as an analyst in 2013 and has held several leadership roles within the company, including Revenue Manager from 2014. Steiro served as Route Manager for regional routes from 2014 to 2021 before taking on the position of Head of Network & Scheduling. From 2016 to 2019, he was also an employee representative on Widerøe’s corporate board. He holds a master’s degree in economics from the University of Oslo.
“It is an honor to be entrusted with leading the commercial division of Norway’s oldest airline. We are a company that lives by the vision of creating opportunities between small and large destinations, and we see potential where others find markets too challenging. The fact that the company’s new owners and leadership have chosen an internal candidate as the new commercial director is a strong vote of confidence in the entire commercial team at Widerøe,” says Espen Bakke-Aas Steiro.
Widerøe’s CEO, Tore Jenssen, is delighted to welcome Espen to his new role. “I am very pleased that Espen has accepted the position as Commercial Director. It is fantastic that we have such a skilled and competent internal candidate who has already played a crucial role in the company. Espen has been instrumental in our success, and I look forward to working even more closely with him in his new role. This is great news for our employees, our owners, and our customers, and I am confident that he will help take Widerøe forward in the years to come,” he says.
“We have become a well-oiled, data-driven organization that has strengthened the Widerøe brand, making it more visible and recognizable to customers. We were bold when we used the aviation industry’s biggest crisis, the pandemic, as an opportunity to position ourselves for growth with an ambitious expansion in Bergen. Since Widerøe became an independent regional airline in 2016, we have also been the fastest-growing company in the Norwegian domestic market. I look forward to continuing the work of developing Widerøe as the leading regional airline in my new role in the coming years and to fruitful collaboration with our colleagues and owners at Norwegian,” he concludes.
Steiro will assume the position of Commercial Director at Widerøe on March 1.
