Role Overview:
Collins Aerospace is at the forefront of Prognostics and Health Management (PHM) that includes Health Usage & Management Systems (HUMS) and Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) for rotorcraft and fixed wing. PHM is the discipline that links studies of failure mechanisms to system lifecycle management. PHM uses component / vehicle data to  enable early detection of impending or incipient faults, and provide early warning of system failures, remaining useful life calculations, and logistical decision-making based on predictive models. A PHM system will optimize scheduled maintenance, predictive condition based maintenance, and non-predictive condition-based maintenance to maximize operational readiness and reduce lifecycle costs. Collins Aerospace is a proven leader and a premier provider of dependable and flexible HUMS, currently being used in the worldâs largest fleets of military and commercial helicopters for integrated vehicle health management. HUMS increases aircraft availability, enhances flight safety and lowers maintenance and operating costs. Structural health monitoring enables damage detection and characterization, and load monitoring to ensure structural integrity in aircraft and provide maintenance and weight savings benefits.
Collins Aerospace has an opening for a Program Chief Engineer to lead PHM/HUMS/SHM in the Mission Systems business unit. The Program Chief Engineer leads a large portfolio of projects and ensures all requirements are met and deliverables exceed the customersâ expectations. The Program Chief Engineer provides leadership over Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) to ensure all of the customer needs are consistently met. The Program Chief Engineer is the engineering interface to the Life Cycle Value Stream Manager for the portfolio, and is the primary technical focal point for the Program Office and the Customer. The Program Chief Engineer is accountable for performance of the engineering team to plan, including overall system architecture, alignment of critical program milestones and strategic alignment of technology to future customer needs. The Program Chief Engineer oversees the entire portfolio of products from early technology development through production and throughout the life of the product in the field. This role is critical to the success of the Mission Systems businesses.
HUMS hardware and software components are also a critical part of the overall Collins strategy for fixed-wing commercial and military PHM, as enabling data acquisition, processing, and transmission modules in the overall Collins connected ecosystem model. As such, HUMS components are also expected to be internally marketed to various segments of other Collins business units.
