Role Summary
The Managing Director, People Operations sets the long-term strategy for the following: HR business partner support, employee relations, HR technology, compliance, people support, and people operations metrics. This senior leader applies thought leadership, creativity, and business acumen to design and implement sustainable, and impactful programs which feed the company’s culture and increase our competitive edge.
As a people leader, the Managing Director of People Operations demonstrates deep business acumen and interpersonal skills to develop and maintain effective, ongoing professional relationships with leaders across Horizon and Alaska Airlines to support their efforts to identify, analyze, and solve people challenges. Additionally, this role oversees the delivery of the HR shared services provided to Horizon Air such as technology, employee travel, compliance, and employee data.
Key Duties
Builds, inspires, and leads a team, systems, and scalable processes which result in an effective approach to the company’s people operation’s needs.
Forges strong relationships with divisional leaders and HR team members by listening, understanding needs, defining shared objectives, proactively consulting, and collaborating to meet organizational goals.
Applies appropriate metrics, processes, technologies, decision-making, and record-keeping to people operations processes to ensure appropriate use of resources, performance against goals, and effectiveness of strategy, strength of HR team and divisional leaders, and meaningful report-out to stakeholders.
Oversee HR compliance strategy and programs, including Affirmative Action Programs, Equal Employment Opportunity, Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs and federal and state employment laws.
Evaluate and optimize existing HR systems and processes and implement new systems and processes that move the organization forward.
Develops people through effective performance management and ongoing feedback, focusing on fostering strategic and systems thinking, development of talent, and succession planning across teams and functions.
Influences company culture through action, presence, and reinforcement of behaviors.
Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills
Required
A minimum of 10 years of experience in Human Resources, including leading large groups of employees, and leading multiple functions simultaneously in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment.
A Bachelor’s degree or willingness to get a degree within six years of start date.
Good working knowledge of and experience with HR functions including HRBP, investigations, HR technology, and application of federal, state, and local employment laws.
Deep experience designing and managing complex processes, as well as managing projects, either as executive sponsor, sponsor, or project manager.
Proven change management skills and a thirst for applying research and best practices to existing business problems.
Excellent strategy, organizational, interpersonal, leadership and customer service skills.
High energy, positive and executive-level presence along with top-notch written and verbal communication, public speaking, influence and motivational skills.
Innovative, apolitical, resilient, fact-based and creative solutions-focused mindset, with ability to thrive in a rapidly-changing, collaborative environment and to manage conflict.
Proven ability to leverage business acumen and analytic capability to position HR organization as a change agent and key business partner.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Minimum age of 18.
Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
