The Opportunity
GKN Aerospace Filton specialises in the design and manufacture of large complex structural wing assemblies, detailed metallic components and wing systems for a combination of both civil and military aircraft. In an addition to our Manufacturing Engineering team, we are seeking an established Manufacturing Engineer who can provide shopfloor support from a production perspective. This is a 'hands-on' role which will see you spending the bulk of your day out on the shopfloor, using your engineering problem-solving skills to deliver robust, capable manufacturing process technology as it applies to materials, tooling, part fabrication and assembly.
How You'll Contribute
Specifically, you will:
- design, document and optimise new and existing manufacturing processes - adhering to our 'Zero Defect' manufacturing model
- implement the global process for product development, first article development, configuration changes, build process definition and implementation.
- establish appropriate new process controls and improve existing ones
- create and update engineering documentation to maintain configuration control and help manage point of introduction activities, first article inspection and customer approval
- lead structured problem solving projects linked to both project deliverables and day-to-day manufacturing issues
- provide day-to-day support to manufacturing operations
- provide MRB (Material Review Board) support to existing programmes to ensure any process deviation or product faults are reviewed and answered
- reduce process driven scrap and rework and support continuous improvement activities
- Be compliant with the Companyâs Environmental, Health & Safety and Energy procedures

What You'll Bring
To help us make a difference, youâll bring your passion and expertise/ talent for what you do along with the following skills, experience, qualifications and attributes:
Essential:
- Production Engineering experience: you will be an established Manufacturing Engineer
- Ability to Interpret Engineering Drawings and associated knowledge of tolerances and technical data
- Experience in Design Definition and in writing detailed standard manufacturing work instructions / SOPâs.Â
Desirable
- Background in Machining (Preferably 4 & 5 Axis Milling)
- Demonstrated Project Management experienceÂ
- Knowledge of Modification processes (Airbus preferable)
- Familiar with Product structures i.e. As-Designed / As-Planned & Technical Repercussion Sheets (TRS)
- Previous experience in Assessing Product change
- Awareness of commercial & estimating processes
- Experience in working cross-functionally, managing interfaces and stakeholders including Supplier / Customer relationships
- APQP / PPAP
