The Opportunity
At our Filton site, we specialise in the design and manufacture of large complex structural wing assemblies, detailed metallic components and wing systems for a combination of both civil and military aircraft. We are seeking a new Technology Project Engineer to join our team, helping us develop and industrialise advanced technologies for the GKN Aerospace business. You will contribute to wing components, assemblies and systems manufactured using new technologies being qualified for flight.Â
How You'll Contribute
In this role, you will:
â˘Â   Support the investigation of the entire value chain for specific value streams, products or areas of the business to identify opportunities for improvement and new approaches to maximise efficiency and deliver differentiating manufacturing capability.Â
â˘Â   Conduct research for specific technology projects to support fast and effective technology development and ensure project deliverables are met to time, quality and cost.Â
â˘Â   Engage and build relations with the GKN Aerospace global technology organisation, sites, customers, academia, research centres and suppliers as appropriate to maximise the speed and efficiency of development and the impact to our customers and the bottom line of the business.Â
â˘Â   Integrate into and work as part of multi-functional teams to develop processes, working closely with the business units, programme manager, manufacturing engineers and value streams to implement technology into production.Â
â˘Â   Take personal responsibility to manage assigned tasks to time, quality and budget to ensure contributions to achieve project milestone and deliverable dates are met, including technical, financial and gate reviews (business or TRL/MRL).Â
â˘Â   Document research and development activities in technical reports, memos, procedures, specifications, invention disclosures and presentations to the highest standards to capture and communicate knowledge.Â
â˘Â   Generate and support internal and external communications to inform the business, current and prospective customers of technologies, projects and progress to promote awareness of GKN Aerospace capabilities and maintaining our position as a technology leader.Â
â˘Â   Provide support to bids, proposals and funding applications, internally within GKN and externally for government funding, customer, supplier and partner collaborations or joint ventures. This shall include planning new projects, work packages, technical, schedule, cost, work and organisational breakdown structures.Â
â˘Â   Be a proactive part of the team supporting the creation of a culture of innovation, whilst being responsible for the creation and recording of intellectual property, supporting the technology team meeting and surpassing site targets and delivering world class differentiating technologies.Â
â˘Â   Directly influence the identification of opportunities for improvement to continue to build and grow the effectiveness and efficiency of the Technology Team to quickly and successfully deliver technology our customerâs value.Â
â˘Â   Comply with all risk assessments and company Environment, Health & Safety Procedures relevant to all work activities; reporting of all accidents and near misses as per the companyâs procedure and implementation of identified corrective actions. Maintain good standards of housekeeping in designated work area(s)Â
â˘Â   Champion âExport Controlâ compliance activities, ensuring you and where applicable, members of your team, adhere to the site âTechnology Control Plan" (TCP), guaranteeing compliance with Export Control Regulations, controls, training and systems.

EssentialÂ
⢠  Experience within an engineering manufacturing environment, including the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and models Â
⢠  Demonstrable experience working from first principles to implement new technology solutions related to engineering components, assemblies and systems
⢠  Experience in planning, monitoring and controlling projects to time, quality and cost, including meeting the requirements of government, EU and customer funded programmes.Â
DesirableÂ
⢠  Degree qualified (or equivalent) engineer qualificationÂ
⢠  Lean and Six Sigma, in particular statistical analysis and statistical process control (certified Lean Six Sigma Greenbelt, Black Belt or Master Black Belt)Â
⢠  Aerospace Experience in aero-structures components, assemblies and systemsÂ
⢠  Experience of developing successful concepts through gated review processes including TRLâs to qualification and production realisation.Â
⢠  Knowledgeable about the whole value chain, from materials through design, part manufacturing and testing. Â
⢠  Experience in generating and delivering high-quality presentations.Â
⢠  Knowledge of Technology Readiness Levels and Manufacturing Readiness Levels and associated processes for planning, developing and assessment of technology maturation.Â
