Role Summary
The Senior Flight Instructor – SIM is a subject matter expert in flight simulation instructions for Alaska Airlines (AS). As an individual contributor, this role exercises considerable judgment to make instruction decisions in the flight training device (FTD), full flight simulator (FFS) and classroom ground training to develop and reinforce flight procedures in normal, abnormal, and emergency flight operations This instructor will interact with the AQP department and provide recommendations on the development and maintenance of training department curricula and courseware.
Key Duties

Act as a subject matter expert in curriculum/courseware for flight crewmember qualification, continuing Qualification, upgrade, transition, re-qualification, and differences training.

Facilitate flight crewmember initial, recurrent, upgrade, transition, re-qualification, and differences ground training.

Develop and maintain courseware, and conduct ground training modules covering aircraft systems, including normal, abnormal, and emergency operations.

Make recommendations to the development of training programs, visual aids, and other training materials for classroom presentation and individual review.

Manage the execution of training environment where presentation media is operating correctly and required reference materials and distributed materials are available.

Execute flight training in the flight training device (FTD) and Full Flight Simulator (FFS) to develop and reinforce flight procedures in normal, abnormal, and emergency flight operations.

Ensure technical accuracy of departmental manuals, including aircraft systems manuals, flight handbooks, performance manuals, checklists, flight operations manuals, and operations specifications.
Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills
Required
-
6 years of aviation experience.
-
2 years of experience ground/flight instruction in commercial aviation.
-
1 year of experience providing flight instruction for commercial aircraft.

A Bachelor’s degree with a focus in aviation or a related discipline, or an additional two years of training/experience in lieu of this degree.

Ability to complete the Alaska Airlines Captain Qualification Curriculum to obtain 737 type rating.

Knowledge of crew resource management (CRM) concepts.
-
Ability to foster cooperative relationships within the department.

Ability to lead classroom discussions and present both technical and non-technical information with high energy, passionate enthusiasm, and a commitment to excellence.

Effective communication skills (e.g., verbal, written, and listening).
-
Detail oriented and highly organized, with ability to multi-task and work independently with limited guidance in a fast-paced environment.

High school diploma or equivalent.

Minimum age of 18.

Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
Preferred
-
ATP certificate and 737 type rating.
-
Experience with fixed-wing and multi-engine aircraft.
-
Knowledge of 737 aircraft systems.
-
Experience of instruction in Level D simulators.
-
Flight instruction in CFR 121 training program.
-
Line experience as pilot for a CFR 121 Air Carrier.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and other graphics software to create instructional training curricula.
