The team provides strategic insight through first understanding business processes and second leveraging data and analytics to drive improvement efforts. This role drives divisional and/or cross-divisional improvement efforts with moderate financial risk and extensive business readiness requirements. The Specialist - Cargo Operations will work closely with front-line leaders to develop creative reporting solutions to current business challenges throughout the cargo ecosystem. This role specifically supports the Cargo Operations Team, which has ownership of all Cargo Warehouse activities from customer bookings, to cargo acceptance, and delivery of freight at destination. We are looking for data curious candidates that seek to understand process and can connect with our business partners to leverage data and drive improvement.
The Specialist will:
- Locate and extract data from a variety of sources for use in reporting and analysis
- Gather requirements, then design and develop automated reports and analyses with direction from other senior members on the team
- Supports projects using project management and lean six sigma techniques and methodologies
- Present findings and solutions to Cargo and front-line leaders
- Utilizes SAS to locate and extract data from a variety of sources for use in reporting, analysis, and statistical modeling to support divisional projects and goals
- Builds interactive dashboards in Tableau
- Practices safety conscious behaviors in all operational processes and procedures
What You Need To Succeed (minimum Qualifications)- 2 to 3 years of experience in analysis, information science, data visualization, or other relevant quantitative field required
- High School diploma, GED or High School Equivalency
- Successful candidates will have a basic understanding or experience with most, if not all, of the following:
- SQL, SAS or other database interface tools and languages
- Visual Basic or other basic functional programming tools
- Statistical analysis and modeling including Linear Regression, non-linear predictive regression and machine learning
- MS Office Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Word
- Must be performing satisfactory in current position
- Where permitted by applicable law, must have received or be willing to receive the COVID-19 vaccine by date of hire to be considered for U.S.-based job, if not currently employed by Delta Air Lines, Inc.

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (preferred Qualifications)
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Science, Business/Management, Mathematics/Statistics, Economics or other relevant quantitative field
- Understanding of Cargo operations, technical expertise in benchmarking, six sigma, Lean and Theory of Constraints (TOC)
- Superior business acumen with strong financial, analytical skills and airline industry knowledge; ability to make high-impact decisions based on quantitative and qualitative factors
