Job Title: Specialist, Mechanical Engineering

Job Duties:
- Serve as lead mechanical engineer on various programs holding the responsibility for ensuring the designs and product performance meet customer specifications
- Apply mechanical engineering principles to generate designs in accordance with FOS design guidelines and procedures
- Modify existing designs for new applications
- Generate design documentation and technical data package (engineering drawings, specifications, compliance matrices, etc.) in accordance with industry, FOS, and customer requirements
- Collaborate with engineering analysts to conduct finite element analysis on new designs, showing compliance to internal guidelines, DoD requirements and customers' specifications. Various CAD/CAE tools are used for this.
- Participate in or lead failure investigations, where appropriate, related to design, production build processes, and customer returns
- Prepare materials for internal design reviews and customer design reviews, and effectively present prepared material to design review teams
- Devise design verification test sequences to demonstrate compliance with specified performance environments (temperature, vibration, shock, acceleration, etc). Prepare associated test plans, and test reports.
- Participate in or lead efforts to drive process improvements which increase efficiency
- Production support includes but is not limited to test fixture and tooling designs, product trouble shooting, document and drawing updates, process control improvements, development of custom customer solutions, and product design improvements
- Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner that is cooperative and supportive of customers, co-workers and managers
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering required
- Minimum 5-8 years of relevant engineering and analytical experience required (3-6 with MS degree)
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Experience using CAD software such as Solid Edge, SolidWorks, NX etc
- Proficient in GD&T application and interpretation
- Understand configuration management as it applies to product documentation
- Proficient in generating and interpreting engineering drawings
- Strong technical writing and presentation skills
- Solid understanding of physics, engineering mechanics, fatigue, and mechanics of materials
- Solid understanding of thermodynamics and heat transfer as well as dynamics and vibration (time-domain and frequency domain) required
- Solid understanding of manufacturing methods as well as design for manufacturability
- Ability & willingness to be adaptable and accept feedback as part of our peer review process.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Knowledgeable in DoD and MIL standards/specifications or other highly regulated industry
- Experience with AS9100 and ISO 9001 quality standards
- Knowledgeable in engineering materials and 3D printing
- Familiarity with finite element analysis tools and methods
- Master of Science in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
