Position Summary
Serves as an engineer for various Engine/APU types, cowls, thrust reversers, and other engine related systems. Performs and validates engine condition monitoring and provides oversight for engine repair work scopes, builds and shop visits. Recommends troubleshooting for aircraft engine systems by working with vendors, maintenance, and maintenance control.
Has a proven track record in an Engineering or Aviation role and has shown technical growth with the ability to manage increased workload with precision and good teamwork. They work well under pressure, take ownership of projects and assignments and mentor fellow Engineers.
Key Responsibilities
- Authors and approves engine repair work scopes, build standards, and coordinates all technical aspects of engine/APU repair work
- Oversees repairs and monitoring for other powerplant components such as nacelles, cowls, thrust reversers, pylons, fire protection, bleed air and ignition
- Performs engine condition monitoring for all engine types. Recommends inspections and repairs based on ECM data
- Provides oversight for engine maintenance contracts to ensure vendors are executing to contract deliverables including repair quality, turn time, operational performance, guarantees, etc.
- Coordinates engine/APU removal planning with all affected work groups and vendors. Maintains the removal plan and works with vendor to ensure adequate sparing
- Mentor and guide Engineers with documentation, industry best practices, and approvals of authorized engineering documents. Shows ability to self manage projects and take ownership. Contributes to departmental growth by bringing forward new initiatives
- Provide technical assistance to line, base, and check maintenance team, 24/7.
- The position requires application of engineering principles to research technical, operational, and quality issues, as well as determining interim and final engineering solutions, and responding to OEM/Vendor and internal questions and reported problems through internal and external communication
- Prepares, creates, reviews and approves engineering documentation in accordance with HA Engineering Standard Operating Procedures and processes. Includes repairs, modifications, alterations and STCâs
- Utilizes technical expertise and practical experience to disposition complex technical issues
- Reviews documents including CMMâs, Service Letters, Service Bulletins, FARs, CFRâs, Airworthiness Directives, and other manufacturer issued publications
- Provide on-site support to Maintenance
- Maintains and updates maintenance manuals, OEM and internal revisions, approve and authorize part master records in TRAX by researching substantiation documentation
- Research reliability trends and assist with actioning improvements on components and airframes
- Interface with equipment vendors, industry partners, MRO providers and regulatory authorities
- Collaboration with Planning, MROâs, Quality Assurance, Supply, Materials and Maintenance for process improvements as needed
- Participates in resolution of design and improvements to maintenance programs & procedures as needed
- Timely accomplishment of assignments coming into the group, including resolution of CARs, CERIs, review/disposition of Alert Level investigations, IRG, MRRB, CAS activities, etc.
- Professional development such as training, conferences and other related duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent scientific discipline from an accredited university, and minimum 3 years of experience in an aviation Engineering capacity
- Has a proven track record in an Engineering or Aviation role and has shown technical growth with the ability to manage increased workload with precision and good teamwork. They work well under pressure, take ownership of projects and assignments and mentor fellow Engineers
- Familiarity with powerplant related issues on commercial passenger aircraft, experience with Rolls Royce and or Pratt & Whitney Engines, knowledge of powerplant systems
- Strong computer skills with Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat etc.
- Able to obtain an AOA/SIDA badge
- Valid driverâs license and passport
- Strong analytical and operational business skills
- Must be able to promptly respond after hours (24/7). Must be able to travel, work flexible hours and work beyond regular hours, including weekends and holidays and non-traditional hours
- Good organizational and prioritization skills and a demonstrated ability of acting as an effective change agent
- Good verbal and written communication skills and ability to summarize complex technical matters. Must be able to confidently and professionally represent Hawaiian to members of federal authorities and industry
- Demonstrated proficiency in the use of aircraft/engine maintenance and specification documents, particularly AMM, WDM, SRM, IPC, TSM, etc.
- Demonstrated proficiency in engineering process and procedures; Works effectively with little supervision and provides proactive engineering support to mechanics while adhering to safety requirements
- This position is considered as an essential worker, required to work on-site to support Tech Ops and available for field assignments as required

Preferred Qualifications
- Engineering Degree / Advanced Degree / A&P License
- 5 years experience as an Engineer in an aviation capacity
- Experience with TRAX maintenance software, particularly engineering module, authoring controls and task cards
- Ability to manage multiple projects, prepare and present progress updates to senior management, conduct basic financial analysis to determine cost/benefit relationships of engineering projects, and prepare business cases
- Commercial aviation experience with FAR 121, in the field of Aircraft Maintenance, Engineering, Quality Assurance, or Regulatory Compliance
- Knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations (Parts 25, 121, etc). Familiarity with Airworthiness Directives and Manufacturer Service Bulletins
- Experience and familiarity with certification, STCs, modification and repair of complex aircraft systems, components and installation on Part 121 aircraft.
- Demonstrated proficiency in the use of aircraft/engine maintenance and specification documents, particularly AMM, WDM, SRM, IPC, TSM, etc.
- 717, 787, A321 and/or A330 experience
