Role Summary
The Principal Commercial and Product Strategy is the lead subject matter expert in building, organizing, and communicating commercial and product strategy proposals at Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air. This thought leader works closely with the Vice President and Managing Director of Commercial Strategy to evaluate new revenue opportunities, align all Commercial divisions on key strategic priorities and goals, and continuously measure progress and success in achieving these goals. As an individual contributor, this role defines long-term strategy practices for the Commercial Strategy and Products teams and exercises considerable latitude and initiative to oversee projects across Alaska’s revenue product and business development spaces.
Key Duties
Contribute to the long-term strategy of Alaska’s Commercial divisions, keeping abreast of airline product and strategy trends to construct and communicate strategies that will grow Alaska’s competitive advantage.
Serve as the subject matter expert on Alaska’s competitive product positioning in a highly dynamic landscape, understanding and communicating how and why Alaska’s products and partnerships are positioned to win.
Define long-term strategy practices for Commercial Strategy and Products teams to assist senior leadership in defining the company’s commercial strategy, aligning around it, and measuring success.
Exercise considerable latitude and initiative to oversee and execute projects across Alaska’s revenue product and business development spaces, partnering across functions and with external partners.
Own commercial strategy communication by preparing cadenced, executive memos, presentations, and reports.
Aid senior leaders in Commercial Strategy to create alignment and urgency across network planning, revenue management, ecommerce, sales, and marketing to deliver aggressive annual revenue budgets.
Leverage advanced analytics to uncover insights and trends that aren’t readily apparent as well as measure the performance of initiatives and strategies in complex and dynamic environments with many drivers.
Develop planning processes to identify and prepare for uncertain scenarios in the industry.
Build datasets, process, and reporting to assist leadership in setting and tracking strategic goals.
Provide ad-hoc analysis as needed for the department in support of commercial decisions, product design, partner negotiations, company presentations, and internal/external communications.
Act as mentor to junior strategists and demonstrates high-performance culture while executing, and/or leading projects.
Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills
Required
7 years of experience in business analytics, strategy consulting, economics, or related area.
Bachelor's degree, or an additional 2 years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum age of 18.
Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
Preferred
Prior experience in the airline and/or travel industry.
Strong understanding of revenue product lifecycle, optimization, and strategy formulation.
Advanced working knowledge in analytics, consumer insights, competitive analysis, and/or demand modeling.
Ability to establish cross-functional, collaborative relationships with other teams, valuing diversity and inclusivity.
Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) and strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence outcomes in the best interest of the company amongst a wide variety of stakeholders and peers.
Detail-oriented and meticulously organized, with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Salary Range
$130,900 - $202,900 / year
Salary Details
Pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, relevant experience/level and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Horizon employees. Alaska/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.
