Babcock New Zealand currently has an opportunity for a suitably qualified and experienced Diesel Fitter to join our experienced team based at the Navy Base in Devonport.
Undertake assigned programmed or un-programmed activities that will include the Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul of Ship’s Main Propulsion and Auxiliary Diesel Engines.
Hourly Rates
- $35.50 per hour
- $53 Time and a half
- $71 Double time

About the role
Reporting to the Workshop Manager, your duties will include
- Installation, repair, maintenance and set to work of auxiliary On-Engine systems (Pumps, Coolers, Compressors, Valves and Pipework)
- Disassembly, repair and rebuild of both Main & Auxiliary propulsion machinery including any testing, repairing, replacing and aligning of components as required.
- Lead or assist other works as deemed appropriate to skill level & required H&S criteria.

About You
The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate some of the following types of skillsets and experience
- Trade qualifications or strong experience in mechanical engineering
- Experience working on a variety of mechanical marine equipment and systems including those found on small craft
- A good level of written and oral communication skills with proven experience in writing reports on faults, maintenance and commissioning
- Well-developed interpersonal skills, a cooperative, team player
- Good verbal and written communication skill
- High level of attention to detail
- Able to Demonstrate high levels of understanding of and adherence to the Health and Safety practices and regulations
- Practical experience of Marine Engineering, Repairs & Maintenance would be highly desirable
