Job Description:
The environmental test technician performs environmental tests in the environmental test lab. The environmental test technician must be experienced and capable of operating all of the equipment in the environmental test lab. The environmental test technician must be capable of performing tests in accordance with work instructions, test procedures and standards.
Essential Functions:
• Test products for production, conformance, qualification, and evaluation.
• Support multiple simultaneous product tests.
• Setup and operate environmental, vibration, and electronic test equipment.
• Setup and perform immersion, chemical, salt fog, and solar radiation testing.
• Independently evaluate products tested.
• Record and compile environmental test data.
• Ensure calibration is current on equipment when used.
• Work closely with engineering on new products, test fixtures and procedures.
• Perform routine preventive maintenance of lab equipment.
• Perform equipment troubleshooting and repairs when necessary.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Weekend coverage is also required.
Qualifications:
• Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience or 2 years post-Secondary/Associates Degree with a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience.
Desired Qualifications:
• Candidates must be capable of operating environmental test chambers, vibration test equipment and other equipment used to perform environmental tests.
• Experience in electronics and test equipment operation is beneficial.
• Ability to multi-task, perform basic electrical troubleshooting and operate a variety of lab equipment while observing safety precautions are required.
• Candidates must also be team players, work independently, and must be available to work overtime when necessary with short notice.
The ideal candidate would have previous Quality Assurance work experience and/or previous experience performing environmental testing, excellent attention to detail, and familiarity with work instructions and lab procedures. Good computer and communication skills and meticulous record keeping ability are essential.
