Avionics Safety Engineer
Crawley (Bristol orReading) â Hybrid working
We are looking for Safety Engineers to join our Flight Avionics UK team; base location is flexible, but ideally one of Crawley, Bristol or Reading.
This role provides a fantastic career opportunity, to develop your systems safety engineering skills and experience under the guidance and mentorship of our Product Safety Managers / Senior Safety engineers.
As a Safety Engineer working in our Flight Avionics business, you will have the opportunity to be part of a team focussed on the development and delivery of products and programmes to a wide variety of customers in the aerospace sectors; covering both Civil and Military domains. This could include:
- Supporting the delivery of our innovative Air to Ground solutions for aircraft, providing vastly improved internet access for airline passengers
- The development of our next generation Control Display Navigation Unit for military helicopter platforms
- Supporting one of the several studies we are undertaking for the Integrated Module Communications programme, to shape the future of aircraft communication systems
Typically, you will be involved in
- Supporting Product Safety Managers / Lead Systems Safety Engineers
- Applying and leveraging your knowledge of Systems Safety Engineering to complex systems
- Undertaking Systems Safety activities and assessment
- Contributing to the development of safety cases
- Working in multidisciplinary project/product teams to identify and manage hazards and risks
About You
- You will be able to work across a range of activities at various stages of the systems engineering lifecycle.

- You will be a good communicator at all levels, able to understand and decompose complexity and present it in simple terms.
Hereâs What Youâll Need
- A degree, or equivalent qualification, in a relevant subject area
- Experience of Systems Safety Engineering activities in the aviation sector is desirable however experience of Safety Engineering in other complex, safety focussed and regulated organisations, such as rail, aerospace, nuclear or oil & gas is accepted
- Experience of preparing Safety Cases and familiar with ALARP principles and arguments
- Demonstrable experience of undertaking Systems Safety activities including System Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Event Tree Analysis (ETA), Common Cause Failure Analysis, Functional Failure Analysis (FFA), Failure Modes Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA), Interface Hazard Analysis (IHA), System Hazard Logs, System Hazard Analysis Reports
- Ability to work collaboratively in an engineering development environment, ensuring Systems Safety compliance is achieved throughout the project life cycle.
- Experience in the application of standards such as Def Stan 00-055, Def Stan 00-056, EN 50126, EN 50128, EN 50129, IEC 61508etc.
- Knowledge of safety related standards in the aviation sector is desirable for example, ARP4761, ARP4754, DO-178C, DO-254, etc
- Professional qualification or working towards professional qualification (e.g. IEng/CEng)
