Maritime Undersea (MU) is a growing business within BDS Autonomous Systems (AS) focused on delivering complex solutions in some of the most challenging environments on Earth. MU is seeking a Production Engineering Build Leader to join our team in Huntington Beach, CA to support the Orca Extra-Large Unmanned Undersea Vehicle (XLUUV) program.
Position Responsibilities:
Manages employees performing engineering and build activities in the area of Production Engineering
Develops and executes integrated organizational plans, policies and procedures and guides the development of business and technical strategies, goals, objectives. Develops and maintains relationships and partnerships with customers, stakeholders, peers, partners and direct reports
Show a proactive and patient personality with a willingness to listen and lead the team with clear direction
Communicate from the bottom up and focus driven over communicate at all levels
Ability to find a way and tactfully ask questions while leveraging Boeing networks to fill gaps
Establish working relationships with and facilitate Liaison Engineering, Quality, Factory Operations, Factory Functional Test, Factory Acceptance Test, DD-250
Partner closely with other program leaders across the program to lead technical development, implementation, analysis and improvement activities
Provides oversight and approval of technical approaches, products and processes to ensure alignment with business plans and goals
Work cross functionally to ensure skill needs are met on programs/projects/product lines and skill utilization objectives are met for the business (Includes Identifying skill gaps and working cross functionally to develop and deploy training, etc. to mitigate them)
The Orca Production Build Leader will report directly to the MU Director and Chief Engineer. Together, this team will develop and maintain relationships and partnerships with customers, stakeholders, peers, partners, and direct reports. The day-to-day activities of this position will be direct program support to the Orca program.
This position allows telecommuting. The selected candidate may be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.
This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Top Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
Bachelor's, Master's or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
5+ years of technical leadership
Experience managing cross-functional teams
Experience with planning, deployment, installation and upgrades of products within required timelines and resource allocations over multiple geographic sites
Experience creating, developing and implementing large scale production systems
Experience in development program and standing up new production systems, activating factories, and defining key requirements for successful manufacturing execution
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
20+ years of technical leadership
Demonstrated skills in leading medium to large teams through all phases of development and Production
Experience leading teams over 60 people
Strong & Diverse Ops background due to the limited structure and procedures currently in place
Prototype, Mock-up, production & start-up experience
Engineering Degree with production engineering experience, knowledge of factory operations, manufacturing capabilities (e.g. composites, structures), and data needed for defining delivery configurations (e.g. design definition, program directives, engineering drawings, change memos, wiring diagrams, schematics, functional tests, and supplier data)
Familiarity with Huntington Beach Site Processes and One Boeing Production System (One-BPS)
Domain knowledge in production engineering best practices for maritime and subsea environments and associated materials
Domain knowledge leading Model Based Engineering (MBE), Design for Assembly (DFA), Designing for Manufacturability (DFM), and Design for Affordability (DFA)
Demonstrated skills in Risk Management and Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) efforts
Cost Account Management using Boeing processes and procedures, including Earned Value Management (EVM)
Willing to submit to a CI Polygraph

Summary pay range: $191,250 - $258,750
