Neurodiversity Internship Program – Systems Engineer Intern Summer 2023 - Remote Technology

The Campus Reach Neurodiversity Internship Program is designed for neurodiverse individuals with autism spectrum disorder. This tailored program will provide valuable work experience, career coaching, and mentorship. From the time an application is submitted, to the end of the summer internship, students will be supported to fully showcase and grow their strengths, abilities, and potential.

Join Southwest as a Summer 2023 Intern, with a 12-week internship lasting from May 23 to August 11.
Work fully remote, with opportunities to connect with your Team and other workgroups virtually and possibly travel to visit HDQ.
This role is offered as a remote workplace position, which may require travel for trainings, meetings, conferences, etc. Outside of those required visits, the majority of your working time may be spent in a remote location, away from our Corporate Campus. Please note, while this is a remote position, there is limited group of states or localities ineligible for Employees to regularly perform their work off-site. Those ineligible locations are: Alaska, Delaware, New Jersey, North Dakota, South Dakota, Vermont, West Virginia, and Wyoming.
Dedicate 40 hours each week to your internship responsibilities and tasks. If selected, you will work with your Leader to determine your work schedule.
Receive hourly pay of $30 and a one-time $1,000 stipend on your first paycheck.
Receive free, unlimited space available travel privileges for yourself (taxes and fees may apply on international travel).
A job coach will be available as a resource to support you during the interview process, as well as throughout the internship.
Required equipment, such as a laptop, will be provided.
The Intern will work as a Systems Engineer within the Technology Department. The Intern will have the opportunity to join Technology Teams that may include, but are not limited to, Infrastructure and Services.
The Quality Management Office (QMO) Teamsupports Revenue Management Technology (RMT) which are the processes that feed data and strategies into the Revenue Management System (RMS) and retrieve optimization and forecast data out of it. RMT products include Demand, Inventory, Pricing and Reference. Revenue Management plays an important role in the security, survival, and profitability of Southwest Airlines by maximizing our revenue.
Duties and Responsibilities:
May include but are not limited to:
Under supervision, may be responsible for vendor management, partner governance, and oversight to deploy systems which are complete, designed and managed over life cycles.
Work with a Team to research problems, plan solutions, recommend software and systems, and coordinate developments in an orderly manner to meet business requirements. Including but not limited to monitoring and testing performance and capacity for potential bottlenecks, identifying possible solutions, and working with partners to implement fixes.
Responsible for ensuring the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability and resolving escalations of simple to medium complexity.
Assist in the implementation and updates to the platform strategy and road map.
Maintain awareness of technology trends in area of responsibility.
Meet commitments and deliverables related to participating in projects.
High School Diploma, GED or equivalent education required.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Must have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986.
You must have a valid U.S. Social Security Number to complete the full hiring process.
This position requires authorization to work in the United States as a permanent employee without sponsorship now or in the future.
Progress towards an undergraduate or graduate degree inComputer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems or Information Technology, Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Business or related degree required.
Minimum Sophomore status. May not have an undergraduate graduation date of May 2023 or prior, unless already enrolled in a part-time (minimum of 6 hours) or full-time graduate degree program at time of application.
To be eligible, you must be currently enrolled as a full-time or part-time student (minimum of 6 hours) as defined by your university at the time of application.
Minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA at the time of application.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Basic knowledge of development methodologies, practices, concepts, technologies and technical options required.
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required.
Previous internship, work experience, or project work in a classroom environmentas a Software Engineer, Developer, or Architect within the past 12 months preferred.
Classroom and/or industry experience using Python preferred
Classroom and/or industry experience using Java preferred
Involvement in Systems Engineering or Software Development clubs a plus.
Project management skills, including principles, timelines, and budgets, are a plus.
Exposure to Agile methodologies preferred.
Basic knowledge of software development methodologies is preferred.
Understanding of Quality Assurance is preferred.
Ability to review, analyze, and present data.
Ability to partner, communicate, and negotiate with various Teams and/or external partners.
Ability to analyze small to medium technical problems, articulating the problem or root cause, and translating the analysis into viable solution recommendations.
Ability to research, create, and document test scenarios and test cases.
Ability to take on multiple assignments, whether administrative or project related, while maintaining a successful level of completion in all responsible work.
Ability to develop, present and effectively communicate ideas and strategies to a variety of audiences.
Required: Full-time, 40hrs a week
Must maintain a consistent weekly schedule M-F during normal business hours at a max of 8hrs per day
Program dates: May 23 – August 11
$30 per hour + $1,000 stipend paid one time on first paycheck
