The Senior Power Systems Operational Engineer role is based within our Devonport Royal Dockyard business area.

Comprising of 14 dry docks, four miles of waterfront and 25 tidal berths, Devonport is the base for numerous surface vessels as well as the base and refit centre for the Trafalgar-class nuclear-powered submarines. Devonport has also recently been selected as the base port for the Navy’s new Type 26 frigates and will become the maintenance centre for the future submarine programme.

The role
The difference our new Senior Power Systems Operational Engineer will make
As a Senior Power Systems Operational Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. This is an opportunity to take a lead role working on a private electrical power distribution network consisting of high integrity supplies for critical facilities.
Day to day, you’ll provide professional and flexible technical support to the ongoing operations and maintenance of DRDL extant power systems and equipment. Specifying replacement equipment/components and supporting the production of configuration documentation for permanent modifications, maintaining configuration of technical drawings and documentation, undertaking asset condition surveys and supporting fault diagnosis and rectification.

Essential experience
- A degree in a relevant engineering discipline or equivalent demonstrable experience
- A thorough understanding of electrical engineering principles for developing and maintaining electrical power systems
- Significant experience of fault finding on electrical systems
- Detailed knowledge of the general legislation, regulations and standards applicable to electrical power systems
- Ability to lead, mentor and coach others
- Proficient in producing technical drawings and documentation
- Working knowledge of relevant engineering software applications/tools
