Role Overview:An exciting opportunity for a Test Support Engineer has arisen in Airbus Filton. You will work with the Airbus structures test centre based in the Aerospace Integrated Research and Test Centre (AIRTeC), Filton, UK.Structures Test Centre UK is part of the Material Processes and Test domain. The Structures Test Centre UK is one of three Airbus centres that perform or manage the full pyramid of static and fatigue structures tests on all Airbus Aircraft Programmes and R&T including exciting new projects on digital hybrid testing and Zero Emissions aircraft.
Responsibilities:The Job holder puts together all constituent elements of the Test Setup (specimen, rig, loading devices, and Data Acquisition); is proficient in the operation of workshop equipment (inc. Lathes, Milling Machines, Pillar Drills etc), including ability to perform welding in various materials and ensure efficient test performance.• Assembles test rigs and fixtures and subsequently install’s specimens in the test rig• Carries out repairs to specimens, modification to rigs and rig structures• Supports planned and reactive maintenance of plant and test equipment• Reviews and records all details of the test to ensure full traceability of the test data• Monitors the test to ensure integrity of the test fixture/rig and specimen• Secures adherence to the Airbus Structures Test Process and implements all suitable transnational processes, methods and tools• Identifies the hazards of the testing task, assesses the risk and formally records the assessment in RAMP• Operates on occasion the Goods-in/out, Transit Store and the Archive/Quarantine stores
Skill Set:Essential:• Practical knowledge and skills to operate workshop equipment (lathe, miller, pillar drill etc) and perform manual fitting tasks• The ability to work from technical drawings and problem solve• Knowledge of basic building blocks of a structural loading system including load cells, hydraulic actuators, fixation points etc.• Understand the function, safe handling requirements, maintenance and assembly• Experience in the use of aluminium, steel, titanium alloys and composite materials• Autonomous, Creative, Lean• Possess a sound understanding and knowledge of the type of work within an Aerospace environment• Candidates must display a self-motivated and proactive approach, excellent communication skills both written and verbal (in English) and have the ability to work as part of the team• Applicants will be expected to support the Business needs by use of multi-skilling, multitasking and work extended hours when required to support priority tests
Desirable:• Educated to a minimum of ONC/HNC or demonstrate practical proficiency from a recognised training/development programme such as City and Guilds, Engineering Industrial Training Board, a company apprenticeship etc• Possess a sound understanding and knowledge of the type of work within an Aerospace environment
