Reporting to the Director, Occupational Health and Safety Regulatory Programs, the incumbent:
  • Ensures In-Flight Service (IFS) and Flight Operations branches’ regulatory compliance to the Canada Labor Code, Aviation Occupational Health and Safety (AOHS) & Canadian Occupational Health and Safety (COHS) regulations, as well Transport Canada (TC) and Employment, Solidarity and Development Canada (ESDC) regulations and is responsible for the management of the branch Occupational Health and Safety
  • Oversees and provides direction, and acts as a subject matter expert on Occupational Health & Safety regulations for the IFS and Flight Operations branches to meet changing corporate, operational and federal conditions in conjunction with Policy and Workplace Committees
  • Is responsible for the design, implementation and maintenance of all Occupational Health & Safety Training Programs and processes in conjunction with Corporate Occupational Health & Safety, as well leading Health and Safety awareness programs for the Branch
  • Acts as the regulatory point of contact for In-Flight Service with Employment, Solidarity and Development Canada (ESDC) and Transport Canada, as delegated.
  • Ensures the management of Canada Labour Code part II obligations for In-Flight Service and Flight Operations, including representation on the Policy Committee and overseeing activities of local Health & Safety Committees.  Also includes oversight of the IFS Health & Safety Team’s related activities and authority on cabin crew work refusals, including follow-up and response to Transport Canada
  • Ensures dissemination of Corporate Occupational Health & Safety data and information throughout the branch
  • Leads the design and communication of Health & Safety Awareness Programs for In-Flight Service
  • Oversees the development, implementation and maintenance of all Occupational Health & Safety training programs, policies, and processes for IFS
  • Leads the development, implementation, and maintenance of the Branch Hazard Prevention Program and COHS Hazard Registry. Is responsible for the identification and risk assessment process aiming at reducing and controlling safety hazards and ensures regulatory compliance and due diligence for IFS and Flight Operations branches
  • Oversees and ensures the processing of cabin crew injury/illness reports in accordance with the Canada Labour Code 
  • Is responsible for reviewing branch employee injury database and statistics, for trending analysis, with the goal of developing programs to reduce injuries for the responsible branches.
  • Leads a team of 4 Health and Safety Managers to ensure the regulatory requirements are met at each base.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of one year of experience in Health and Safety 
  • Experience as a Flight Attendant (Flight Attendant qualification)
  • Extreme flexibility and availability to work long and due to operational requirements (emergency situations and handling of cabin crew work refusal)
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal, in both English and French
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Ability to travel as required (approximately 25% of the time)
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and planning skills
  • Excellent decision-making abilities
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • Highly motivated with excellent interpersonal skills
