The Accounting Senior Specialist role supports various financial activities in the accounting department. Core responsibilities include leading month-end, quarter-end and fiscal year-end accounting close for the business unit in multiple ERP systems to ensure complete and accurate reporting in the general ledger. The role will work with the front end of the business (Bids & Proposals, Program Management and Contracts) to understand and evaluate contract terms and conditions and their impact to revenue recognition. This position involves working across various finance and non-finance functions to support accounting transactions, analysis and audit.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Analyze and reconcile complex accounts and reserves
- Analyze and research variances between subledger systems
- Prepare and present monthly summary of percentage-of-completion and cost-plus contracts and related management reserve position to senior management
- Work with Corporate Technical Accounting to ensure appropriate disclosures around Estimates to Completion are reconciled and accurate.
- Make revenue recognition determinations for large contracts based on Accounting Standards Codification 606.
- Analyze historical sales and market conditions to support management’s assumptions for standalone pricing.
- Prioritize and test enhancements and fixes to the ERP system by working with IT and other business process owners as necessary.
- Support and update internal controls documentation and testing to support a clean opinion regarding internal controls over financial reporting.
- Support internal and external audit of related matters
- Be an integral team player on meeting monthly close process and deadlines
- Assist with Ad Hoc request and reporting as necessary
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (Accounting, Finance or other related field) and minimum 6 years prior relevant experience; or Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- CPA Preferred
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Products (i.e. Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams)
- Experience with Oracle / PeopleSoft
- Ability to research, compile, analyze and interpret large sets of data
- Ability to establish interpersonal skills as well as verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
