Working as a Lifecycle Engineer within Rolls-Royce Plc for the submarines business, you'll be at the forefront of technology, designing and supporting the nuclear reactor cores that power some of the world's most advanced submarines. Rolls-Royce is a world leader in nuclear submarine systems and support services incorporating design, procurement, and operation. For the past fifty years, we have been the Technical Authority for the UK Nuclear Steam Raising Plant (NSRP), which is responsible for powering the whole of the UK's Royal Navy submarine fleet. The Engineering Management team is responsible for supporting the Dreadnought PWR3 Chief Engineering team in managing the engineering activities that are required to successfully deliver the Dreadnought PWR3 project. This requires cross-functional working across the various engineering teams and supporting functions around the business, as well as our industry partners. The role is ideally suited to a well-rounded engineer with an interest in leading a broad scope of engineering activities across the project and able to work effectively with a range of internal and external stakeholders to achieve this. As Engineering Management Section Leader, you will be responsible for setting the strategic direction for the Engineering Management work scope, developing the engineers within the team and providing governance for the team’s outputs. You will also be working closely with the Dreadnought Chief Engineering team to ensure that strategies, policies, plans and tools are in place for the different stages of the lifecycle, monitor engineering maturity / performance, manage issues of customer concern and deliver key transversals outputs. What you will be doing: With this exciting opportunity you will be involved with the following: You will be ensuring that the correct engineering strategies, policies, and management plans are in place throughout the lifecycle of the project. You will be fulfilling the role of Product Introduction & Lifecycle Management (PILM) Champion for the Dreadnought PWR3 project, ensuring that all business and technical aspects of the project are being matured concurrently in line company expectations. You will be providing leadership on requirements management, including influencing the future strategy for Dreadnought Dynamic Object-Oriented Requirements System (DOORS), administration of Dreadnought DOORS and delivery of documentation to the customer / shipbuilder to support qualification of whole boat General Technical Requirements (GTRs). You will be providing governance for the Dreadnought PWR3 environmental case which is managed within the team. You will be leading close out of Resolve Customer Issues (RCIs) as required by the Dreadnought Chief Engineering team. You will be reporting of Dreadnought engineering performance metrics, organisation of Dreadnought Chief Engineer High Spots and Dreadnought actions management. To be successful in this role you will need to: Bachelor's degree, Master's or PhD in Engineering or regional equivalent qualification or equivalent technical capability based on practical knowledge and experience. Demonstrated ability to lead / influence interdisciplinary stakeholder groups across a range of different levels within the organisation. An understanding of key engineering and change control processes. An ability to flex across a broad scope of technical and functional topics and problem solve with unfamiliar subjects. Good communication skills and able to demonstrate the right behaviours for leading and developing a small team of engineers. Able to look at complex projects / problems holistically, discern the pertinent issues and discuss these at an appropriate level of detail. Ideally a Chartered Engineer or be able to demonstrate sufficient experience to become chartered. Experience of Dynamic Object-Oriented Requirements System (DOORS) would be beneficial.
