Director, Network Planning

PURPOSE: The Director of Network Planning is responsible for managing the team that oversees the development of Avelo’s growing network: researching and analyzing the feasibility of new routes, monitoring the financial performance of existing routes in the network, and constructing efficient flight schedules to maximize profitability. Candidate must be a highly analytical, motived self-starter, willing to get into details of Avelo’s network performance while being able to communicate ideas effectively at the highest levels.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Constantly monitor route performance against forecast targets and make recommendations to improve financial and/or operational performance.
• Support the development of Avelo’s growth strategy by researching new base and route opportunities and presenting findings to senior management.
• Manage the short, mid, and long-term development of Avelo’s schedules, maximizing the revenue generating capability of the network while balancing the cost and operational needs for aircraft, crew, and airports.
• Oversee the development of rolling forecast operating statistics and network revenue to support regular senior management reports, Board of Directors Meetings, etc.
• Monitor competitors airlines in terms of schedules, fleet, destinations, etc. and report on potential impact to network plan of changes/actions made them.
• Lead the preparation and development of Board materials and regular senior management reports.
• Build relationships and work closely with other departments such as Pricing/Revenue Management, Finance, Flight Operations, Technical Operations, Operations Control, etc. to ensure feasibility of future network plans.
• Manage and mentor team of managers and analysts to constantly improve Avelo’s network and to live Avelo’s values.

REQUIREMENTS:

• 4-year degree in a highly quantitative field, including Business, Economics, Finance, Statistics, Engineering, etc.
• Minimum of five (5) years of airline or related experience.
• Experience with flight scheduling systems (OASIS; Zulu; Sabre Schedule Manager; etc.)
• Strong analytical ability, critical thinking skills, and communication skills – must be able to analyze numerous data points, synthesize the information, and provide clear, concise recommendations.
• Comfortable working in a fast paced, dynamic environment with the ability to make effective decisions with limited or incomplete data.
• Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel, data intelligence tools (Tableau; PowerBI; etc.), Microsoft PowerPoint
• Expert knowledge of airline operations and inter-departmental process flow.
• Ability to understand financial statements and how decisions impact financial results.
• Must be willing and able to work onsite in Houston’s Greenway Plaza.
