The Manager Product Testing, Labs & Sustaining is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the team in charge of connectivity product line product testing, all laboratories, and connectivity sustaining activities. The product testing area is responsible of integrating the products on an LRU basis and from an end-to-end perspective. This includes software, hardware, system and network integration. This individual is responsible for the laboratories used in the company for any testing activity (product testing, system testing, performance testing, type approval testing, etc.). This includes the supervision of laboratories maintenance, the preparation of new testracks to satisfy product development needs (from preparation through assembly until operation), inventory management. The individual will also manage communication with third parties hosting laboratory setups related to the connectivity products. The Manager oversees the conduction of troubleshooting and sustaining activities on connectivity legacy products. This person is interfacing and managing communication between this team and the other departments, as well as with SPI’s customers, suppliers and contractors within his/her scope.
Your Tasks
- Lead the Product Testing, Labs & Sustaining team, providing strategic direction to be aligned with the connectivity product line vision
- Manage overall resources of the Product Testing, Labs & Sustaining team based on project/company needs and priorities
- Foster and re-enforce strong engineering expertise within the team
- Responsible for the software, hardware, system and network integration of the connectivity products
- Lead the execution of LRU and system performance testing
- Design, purchase, build and maintain laboratory equipment (testbeds) needed to support testing of connectivity products
- Manage purchases for laboratory equipment
- Prepare yearly budget need of laboratory assets and manage its usage
- Instruct lab users on safety aspects of the areas, as well as maintain related safety assessments and work instructions
- Interface with third parties hosting laboratory setups related to the connectivity products and support them as needed
- Oversee troubleshooting & sustaining activities on connectivity legacy products
- Analyze problem reports and provide engineering support on all priority issues identified by the program and customer support teams
- Support obsolescence management
- Participate to quality audits related to testing, sustaining and laboratory
- Conduct interviews for open positions in the Product Testing, Labs & Sustaining team
- Conduct feedback meetings and annual reviews
Requirements
- Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent experience in a related field
- 5+ years of experience working as a sustaining engineer or system tester
- 3+ years of experience working in a management role
- Familiar with all aspects of engineering systems involving complex circuits, cables, power supplies, mechanical components and software
- Experience in designing equipment utilized in engineering and production test
- Experience with satellite communication and radio frequency technique is advantageous
- Operational understanding of Linux is desirable
