Job Description
Takes end-to-end ownership and responsibility over critical initiatives including development, integration and management of technical frameworks deployed within private, public, and/or hybrid cloud platforms ensuring performance and scalability of complex analytical applications. The Platform Engineer Principal identifies various patterns for data acquisition, processing, and management with respect to differing data types, volume, velocity, and accessibility requirements supporting BI /AI /ML based applications. Collaborates with engineers and architects to develop analytical frameworks which are the foundation of FedEx's Data and Analytics Platform. Ensures the platform, data, and derived BI/AI /ML applications are scalable, reliable, and performant while balancing security, maintainability, reliability, and operational excellence.
Job Summary
We are looking for a technical leader to design and build FedEx Datawork’s next generation cloud training environment on Microsoft Azure. This leader will leverage experience in architecting and building analytical platforms on Azure, developing deploying cloud native applications, delivering data and analytical products to influence the creation of the cloud training environment. In this environment, data engineers, software engineers, data scientists, OR engineers, data analysts, and SREs will get hands-on training in a customized cloud environment that will focus on solutions, architectures, design principles, and cloud services relevant to FedEx. Additionally, this leader will work with program managers, technical subject matter experts, human resources teams, and vendors to develop curriculum of training programs that will be implemented on the platform. To keep up with the latest trends in technology, the platform engineer principal will also participate in technical initiatives, beyond just training, that deliver direct value to FedEx’s internal and external partners.
Skills/Abilities Needed
- Extensive experience conducting end-to end analyses, including data gathering and requirements.
- Strong experience providing leadership in a general planning or consulting setting.
- Strong experience as a leader of multi-functional project teams.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to present and communicate effectively to executive audiences.
- Identify various patterns for data acquisition, processing, and management with respect to differing data types, volume, velocity, and accessibility requirements to determine platform design
- Based on requirements, in collaboration with CloudOps Engineers, Software Engineering, Data Engineers and Data Scientists, architect and build platforms and frameworks that enable the creation of data and analytical products and ensure that the services and solutions on the platform are repeatable, scalable, and resilient while also being cost efficient.
- In collaboration with data governance and information security SMEs, develop access controls to secure data and compute on the platform.
- In collaboration with SREs, build monitoring and alerting systems to provide visibility and resolutions to failures on the platform and that of the hosted solutions in order to minimize down times and maintain high service levels.
Skills/Abilities/Experience considered a plus- Experience with architecting and building a cloud based analytical platform.
- Experience using Infrastructure as Code tools to create resilient and scalable compute, storage, access control, security and monitoring resources on the cloud
- Hands on experience with developing and deploying end to end analytical solutions on the cloud.
- Leading team(s) of developers/analysts/data scientists to build data and analytical products and providing mentorship to junior technical team members
- Translating business requirements to technical solutions
- Designing and delivering upskilling programs for personnel with an emphasis on cloud technology
Minimum QualificationsBachelor's Degree/equivalent in computer science, engineering, or information systems. Seven plus (7+) years’ work experience in Platform Engineering or related field. Refined understanding of the transportation industry, competitors, and evolving technologies. A related advanced degree may offset the related experience requirements.Domicile Information:
