THE OPPORTUNITY

An exciting opportunity to be part of the Commercial team at Leonardo, within the Customer Support and Service Solutions (CS3) division, which is a major growth area with ambitious targets over the short to medium term.

Leonardo are looking for a Commercial Officer to work in a fast paced and dynamic environment for the Land sector. The role interfaces with a variety of UK and International customers focused within the UK and throughout the rest of the world and works as part of an integrated project team (IPT). This role will have responsibility for the maintenance and administration of current and new contracts and development of commercial bids/proposals.

This role requires a flexible and adaptable mindset, and requires the role holder to be comfortable advocating commercial governance and practices within the organisation. This role is required to work at fast pace and to tight timeframes, so excellent communication skills and ability to prioritise is a must. In return this role provides exposure to a variety of contracts, customers and work environments.

The role is South West based, on a hybrid working basis [with home working], but will require some attendance at Leonardo sites in Bristol and Yeovil on a semi-regular basis.

What You’ll Do

  • Draft and prepare contracts, other agreements and internal approvals in line with standard and non-standard formats
  • Performance of assignments requiring cross functional collaboration with limited supervision
  • Establish integrity in complex pricing models in order to ensure accuracy and compliance with standard formats and develop negotiation strategies
  • Unsupervised attendance at customer meetings to represent the function
  • Analyse and identify commercial documents to ensure all information is accurate, relevant and adhered to, in order to ensure they are approved by the business
  • Build and maintain mutually beneficial relationships with colleagues, customers and partners to deliver the value to the company
  • Take the lead in producing clear and concise correspondence, obtaining stakeholder input as and when required.
  • Providing commercial support and administration to projects and/or contracts, including monitoring performance of its contractual obligations and administration of commercial risk.
  • Functional focal point for IPT project and cross-functional meetings to answer questions concerning contract/commercial matters.
  • Managing own workload, highlighting areas of conflict or priority and effectively managing stakeholder and customer expectations.
  • Debtors management working closely with the IPT and finance
  • Business approvals within delegated authority.

We’re Looking For Someone Who

  • Has a flexible mindset and adaptable approach.
  • Be skilled at managing a variety of tasks across a portfolio, adeptly prioritising and communicating effectively with key stakeholders and customers.
  • Has an understanding of business finance, profit and loss, margin and mark up, escalation, foreign exchange
  • Has an understanding of export legislation, import taxes and duties
  • Has a level of understanding of contract law and its application.
  • Identifies and understand commercial risks and how to implement mitigation strategies
  • Has the ability to build effective and strong relationships with cross-functional colleagues, customers and partners
  • Has Microsoft Office knowledge and application of Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Possesses excellent communication skills, written, oral and presentation skills.
  • Is proactive, tenacious and results driven
  • Has a desire to learn and improve self (including using the Corporate World Commerce & Contracting membership for self-development).
  • Will travel to internal and customers sites including occasional overseas travel

It would be nice if you had

  • Degree, professional qualification (such as IACCM/WCC) and/or defence contracting experience
  • Ability to promote a culture of best practice and sharing of knowledge within the function and across the wider business
  • A familiarity with SAP and its functionality
