In this role, the Principal Engineer (Mechanical Design) will actively participate in conceptual and detailed design of NPI (New Product Introduction), redesign and technology programs of Collins Aerospace Advance Structures business unit and will support engineering activities in Engineering Product development & lead the design team effectively to meet the business objectives.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Understand system requirements, design intent, and comply with applicable design practices, aerospace standards, customer requirements and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience in System architecture design and complete product life cycle.
  • Lead design engineering activities for NPI, Technology programs, value engineering and resolve design problems.
  • Implement engineering solutions, taking account of critical constraints, including due concern for cost, stress, and safety.
  • Develop the methods and designs for the commonality and optimization of product & components.
  • Perform Design failure mode and effects analyses. Consider reliability & safety analyses aspects for design solutions.
  • Proficiency on detailed design requirements, stack ups, weight assessment, modelling the Assembly or structure within design space.
  • Experience in MBD creation, performing multiple trades, capture advantages & disadvantage of each trade.
  • Provide thoughtful ways to improve processes, tools, methods, and products and document the best practice.
  • Design for manufacturability and assembly (DFM and DFA) and optimize the design for cost reduction.
  • Support manufacturing concessions and engineering change requests with a good understanding of change management process.
  • Be self-motivated and keen to get involved in new technologies and projects and learn new skills to map out future career path.
  • Actively participate in a team environment and work with customers, suppliers, and cross functional teams for product development.
  • Should take ownership on detailed design & work Independently. Demonstrate Strong capability in providing technical help to peers.
  • Create excellent technical presentations and communicate well with counterparts/customers in both verbal and written.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or equivalent.
  • Sound knowledge in mechanical engineering fundamentals
  • Minimum of 12+ years of industry experience in mechanical design activities for new product development / redesign of components and assemblies.

Skill Sets:

  • Experience in electro-mechanical product design.
  • Knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes and heat treatment processes
  • Minimum 8+ years of hands-on experience using CATIA V5/ Siemens NX and PLM tools for mechanical design.
  • Experience on Actuators, Seals and Valves Design
  • Exposure towards Gears / Clutches / Motors / Electromagnetic concepts
  • Knowledge on Aerospace structures design, Interface Control Document (ICD) & Interface Control Model (ICM) creation.
  • Knowledge of aerospace product compliance, qualification, and certification.
  • Strong decision making and critical thinking.
