Payroll Specialist

Job Summary:

Position is responsible for preparing and processing payroll for weekly and semi-monthly pay cycles across Canada for both union and non-union employees. This role is part of the Canadian payroll team working in our corporate Canadian headquarters.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Process and distribute payroll in a timely manner.
  • Process manual and miscellaneous checks.
  • Maintain payroll records, process properly approved payroll record changes.
  • Answer and/or research payroll inquiries from employees and managers.
  • Analyze and process payroll garnishments.
  • Perform payroll reconciliations.
  • Daily data entry of payroll information.
  • Ad hoc projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Associates Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business preferred.

Work Experience:

  • 2 to 4 years of payroll processing experience in a multi-company, multi-provincial environment required.
  • experience processing payroll in an unionized environment.
  • experience with Workday and Kronos is preferred.

Technical Skills: (Certification, Licenses and Registration)

  • registration with the Canadian Payroll Association preferred

Job Skills:

  • Ability to plan & organize work schedules, establish workload priorities and perform assigned tasks in a timely manner.
  • Knowledge of employee tax setup based on live/work jurisdictions.
  • Must be proficient with spreadsheets and database query skills.
  • Proficient with all Microsoft applications, Word, Excel
  • Excellent customer service skills.

Language / Communication Skills:

  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Must have the ability to communicate and disclose data in an accurate manner
