Crane Aerospace & Electronics is seeking a Quality Engineer in Burbank, CA.

As a Quality Engineer you will control and monitor quality to ensure the production of Crane’s products are consistent with established industry standards, government regulations, and customer requirements. The Quality Engineer will use established procedures and work with minimum supervision to accomplished assigned tasks by working cross-functionally with Engineering, Operations, Suppliers and Customers. The Quality Engineer applies advanced concepts, practices and procedures of assigned products or programs, and has appreciable latitude for action or decisions. Assignments are broad in nature, usually requiring originality and ingenuity.

Responsibilities:

  • Collect and analyze production data such as yield, rework, and scrap to evaluate product quality and identify opportunities for process improvement. 
  • Conducts root cause analysis and recommends corrective actions.
  • Serve as customer advocate, stopping production if serious product defects are present and collaborating with the Value Stream team for resolution.
  • Monitor quality control systems to ensure effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Instruct others in quality control and analytical procedures, serving as subject matter expert in the Value Stream team.
  • Produce reports regarding non-conformance of products or processes, root cause analyses, or quality trends; recommend actions, and participate in team driven resolution.
  • Review statistical studies, regulatory standards and trends in the field of quality to identify best practices and opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Facilitate identification of key process characteristics and deployment of SPC, sampling procedures and control plans to reduce product variation.
  • Drive qualification of product and process changes to ensure only the highest levels of quality are accepted.
  • Serve as area focal for quality audits with Defense, Aerospace and Customer Auditors.
  • Provide support for failure analysis and reliability testing as required.  Engage in FRACAS process to drive lessons learned from field failure and repair data into engineering design improvements.
  • Review and approve quality document changes (ECO, MCO, deviations).

Minimum Requirements:

  • Experience: 5-8 years of experience as a Quality Engineer in an Aerospace environment or similar manufacturing setting; Electro-mechanical and/or electronics manufacturing is highly preferred 
  • Education: BA or BS degree required. Preferred in Quality, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
  • Knowledge: Knows and applies advanced concepts, practices and procedures of assigned product or program; Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures; Working knowledge of AS9100. PPAP experience highly preferred.
  • Skills/Abilities: Demonstrated ability to plan and accomplish goals based on experience and judgment; Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal staff and outside professionals; Proficient in the use of Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint; Oracle highly preferred.
  • Employment Eligibility Requirement: This position may require access to Controlled Data or Information. Where the position requires such access only US persons will be considered.  As a US Department of Defense contractor, we are bound by International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knows and applies advanced concepts, practices and procedures of assigned product or program, Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Educational background in Structured Problem Solving, 5S, Mistake-Proofing and process capability tools.
  • Proficiency in Lean Principles and Implementation Tools (Value Stream Mapping, Kaizen Leadership, 5S, etc.)
  • Quality Control processes (SPC, Cpk, etc.)
  • ASQ-CQE Quality Engineer Certification
  • Exposure to AS9145

Working Conditions:

  • Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment.
  • Manufacturing operations may require the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to: eye safety glasses, gowning, masks, hearing protectors, heel/wrist straps and any other required PPE.
  • May be exposed to unusual environmental conditions such as loud noises, cold temperatures, confined spaces, dust or fumes.
  • Must be flexible to work overtime and weekends on occasion if needed.
  • Requires lifting 25 lbs.
  • Requires approximately 5% travel to support customers.

Salary range: $113,152 to $133,536. Several factors contribute to actual salary, including experience in a similar role or performing comparable job responsibilities, skills, training, and other qualifications.
