Group Business Controller

SAS is in a very exciting period going through its biggest single financial restructuring in history, with the objective to recapitalize bringing in the amount of SEK 30 bn. In 2023, a consortium of investors – the biggest being Castlelake, AirFrance/KLM and the Danish State – agreed to provide the necessary funding, enabling SAS to proceed with completing the U.S. and Swedish legal processes.

 

The pandemic years have been the most challenging in the history of the airline industry and has had a fundamental impact on SAS - from travel restrictions that were introduced early on to changes in travel patterns. That is why SAS has launched a broad restructuring program SAS FORWARD. It is a comprehensive business and financial transformation plan designed to secure SAS's long-term competitiveness. The plan is aimed at putting SAS on a solid financial footing, while at the same time investing in the areas we see as important for the future, such as digitization and sustainability.

As Group Business Controller you will:

 

As Group Business Controller at SAS, you will become part of the Group Business Control team with a key role to support SAS delivery on its strategy and overall goals from a financial perspective. The team has an ambitious digitalization agenda going forward, with the objective to improve speed and agility on multiple dimensions. Our mission is to shift the perspective from reporting actuals to rolling next 13-months in granular level and up to 5-years in a more condensed, but still integrated planning.

 

As Group Business Controller you own, develop and maintain processes linked to financial analysis, reporting, budgeting, forecasting, digitalization and KPI development. You report to the Head of Group Business Control and your workplace is in Frösundavik, Solna.

Main duties

 

  • Be a key player in the enterprise financial planning process
  • Monitor, report and follow up the financial performance of the Group and its business units with the objective to improve financial performance and meet targets
  • Analysis and decision support, e.g. evaluating the effect of proposed change initiatives in SAS's overall strategic agenda
  • Support digitalization initiatives within all aspects of financial planning and reporting
  • Contribute to the consolidated monthly financial reporting and the budget/forecasting process
  • Be a competence center for decision support, financial analysis and reporting through Business Control and Finance, which may for example include development and updating of KPI dashboards within the BI system environment

Formal qualifications for the role

 

  • Solid experience in understanding business management, financial planning and analysis
  • At least 4 - 6 years of work experience from similar roles in a large complex corporation and/or major global audit firm. Your personal skills and attributes (pls see “who we are looking for” below) will be more important than exact length of experience
  • A relevant university degree in e.g. economics, finance or accounting
  • Proven strong understanding of central financial processes such as financial statements, budgeting and forecasts
  • Experience of consolidation at group level as well as solid understanding of accounting and preferably IFRS reporting
  • Fluency in English and preferably also Swedish

You enjoy taking initiative to create high quality deliverables and are completely comfortable owning and operating various types of financial management processes and analyses. You see contacts and cooperation with stakeholders from different backgrounds as a natural part of ensuring high quality of deliveries. You have a flexible mindset and are driven by learning new things.
