Augmented Reality for Extravehicular Activities on the Lunar SurfaceWhat to expect: Augmented Reality (AR) has opened new ways to visualize important information during Extravehicular Activities (EVAs) for astronauts on the lunar surface. This includes an intuitive display of checklists and instructions, as well as navigational and hazard awareness information that can be directly placed in the environment. Within the scope of this position, your task is to support the development of AR features for this purpose, using technologies such as the Microsoft HoloLens 2 and the Varjo XR-3. Your tasks include:

Augmented Reality for Extravehicular Activities on the Lunar SurfaceWhat to expect: Augmented Reality (AR) has opened new ways to visualize important information during Extravehicular Activities (EVAs) for astronauts on the lunar surface. This includes an intuitive display of checklists and instructions, as well as navigational and hazard awareness information that can be directly placed in the environment. Within the scope of this position, your task is to support the development of AR features for this purpose, using technologies such as the Microsoft HoloLens 2 and the Varjo XR-3. Your tasks include:
- research novel ideas for displaying procedure checklists, task instructions and navigational - and hazard awareness information in the safety and time critical context of human lunar surface operations
- implement AR functionalities using the Microsoft HoloLens 2 and the Varjo XR-3 platforms
- integration of different interaction modalities, such as gesture- based, eye- tracking- based or button- based interaction with the AR interface Documentation and presentation of your work
- currently enrolled in a Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field
- knowledge of Python, C/C++ or C# programming
- professional working proficiency in English or German
- experience with the Microsoft HoloLens 2 or the Varjo XR- 3, MRTK, and game engines such as Unreal or Unity
- experience in developing AR solutions for high-risk environments (e.g. military or aerospace domain) is a major plus
