The opportunity
We are looking for an open minded, collaborative Project Engineering Manager with a breadth of experience to lay the foundations of engineering delivery for the next 25+ years on the Global Combat Air Programme.
The Global Combat Air Programme is an international collaboration between the UK, Japan and Italy developing a 6th generation Future Combat Air platform that will enter service in the mid 2030’s.
Leonardo UK play a fundamental role in the development and delivery of key capabilities for the Global Combat Air Programme and you could help develop our next generation transformational product.

What you’ll do as Project Engineering Manager – Domain Development
Successful delivery of the Global Combat Air Programme will only be possible through the creation of an effective tri-national delivery enterprise with a shared sense of identity and purpose. The advertised role resides at the heart of this activity. You will, in conjunction with other members of the domain development team, work to establish
- Productive international partnerships
- A working ISANKE & ICS domain through enactment of workshare allocation agreements
- An overarching set of development and governance processes that will facilitate co-ordinated and effective tri-national delivery of the ISANKE & ICS vision that are agreed by the four partner companies (Leonardo UK, Leonardo IT, Electronica and Melco)
- Leading all technical aspects associated with establishing the ISANKE & ICS domain construct e.g. Joint Venture Company, Consortium etc.
- Leading the establishment of ISANKE & ICS domain engineering practices including strategy, policy and process, enabling efficient and effective delivery by geographically dispersed teams
- Supporting work allocation negotiations ensuring technical viability is preserved
- Supporting the creation of commercial agreements, ensuring they enable engineering delivery.
- Providing Engineering input to bids and proposals relating to the Joint Venture Company, Consortium etc.
What We Need From You
You really must have
- Have excellent communication skills with all levels of hierarchy and across cultures
- Have ability to Influence and Inspire Trust in others
- Be able to work effectively even in the presence of uncertainty
- Be a proactive problem solver that seeks win-win solutions
- Have significant engineering management experience, preferably on large scale delivery of electromechanical systems with embedded software for aerospace applications
- Have a breadth of engineering experience and a good understanding of engineering functions, projects and processes
- Be able and willing to travel internationally on a regular basis
- Understand how engineering is delivered by Leonardo UK
- Have experience of all lifecycle phases i.e. Development, Manufacture and Support
