Job Purpose

BAE Systems is the UK Government’s nominated Prime Contractor under the Government-to-Government arrangements that are in place to provide equipment, support and training to Saudi Arabia. We provide maintenance of Royal Saudi Air Force aircraft and train RSAF personnel safely in a training environment in how to use their aircraft, equipment and weapons.

Job Accountabilities

The Head of Aircrew Training & Governance (HoATG) provides advice and guidance on a range of flying operations matters to a business or functional area to meet operational needs of line management and the business.

Typically this role works within agreed flying operations frameworks and would be involved in the development, implementation and management of flying operations policies and processes. The role requires a good and broad professional knowledge, and keen understanding of military flying operations principles and practices, including an understanding of the impact and implications of decisions made, and of relevant flying related policies.

The delivery of the role will typically be through collaboration with a small team of military flying operations professionals or is delivered as an individual contributor with subject matter expertise in a key military flying operations discipline.

HoATG can be called upon to deliver flying operations tasks and activities commensurate with their skill set.

HoATG is an integral member of the BAE Systems Saudi Arabia (BAESSA) Flying Operations Directorate team and is responsible for assessing and reporting the compliance of all BAESSA flying operations activities with Business and contracted mandates.

HoATG will be required to accept a Letter of Delegation (LOD) from the Director of Flying Operations to assure BAESSA flying operations compliance with business and contracted mandates.

HoATG is responsible for promulgating functional processes that assist stakeholders in achieving their mandated requirements through the BAESSA Flying Operations Exposition – Training (FOE-T) process document.

RECRUITMENT SPECIFICATION

  • A Military Flying Instructor Qualification.
  • Military staff experience at Squadron Leader/Major (or equivalent) level or above in a western military.
  • Good knowledge of fast jet air operations and aircrew training gained from 10 years plus experience in a military aircraft operations/training environment.
  • A working knowledge of aviation safety management.
  • Computer literate and a working knowledge of supported software packages, including Microsoft Office suite together with any other specialist packages necessary to fulfil the task.
  • Knowledge and experience of delivering projects within a defence contracting or military service environment in Saudi Arabia or the Middle East.
  • Experience of designing and delivering flying operations training in an operational military flying environment. Knowledge of working with senior customer and business communities to develop and deploy proven innovative solutions.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the BAE Systems Lifecycle Management (LCM) programme.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the BAE Systems Operational Framework (OF) and its application from a functional and programme/project perspective (SBDCP and Salam).
  • Knowledge and understanding of applicable RSAF policies and regulations and how they apply to BAESSA flying operations.
  • Experience of project management within the industry/sector.
  • Domain knowledge of the military air training environment.
  • Experience in customer, contractor and team relationship building and management.
  • Ability to work on your own initiative and lead diverse operational teams.
  • Experience in training governance and its application to training roles.
