Position Summary:

Reporting to the President and CEO, the Director, Corporate Strategy is responsible for the development and facilitating execution of the corporation’s Corporate Strategy and its current 10-year Strategic Plan. The Director facilitates the development and communication of the GTAA’s Vision, Mission, Strategic focus areas, and prioritization of the strategic initiatives. The Director leads in the setting of priorities and resources required to deliver the plan and influences the corporate practices, management approaches, tools, organizational structure, and culture as it transforms to deliver on record passenger growth levels.

This role supports the CEO on other corporate wide efforts including setting annual performance objectives and targets. The Director is a strategic advisor to the Executive Team, providing analysis, data, benchmarking, insights and options necessary to drive high-value strategic outcomes, ensuring the GTAA’s competitive advantage, profitability and as one of Canada’s most critical economic assets.

As Director, Corporate Strategy, you will:


  • Lead the development of the strategic plan/framework to accelerate organizational performance, and the facilitation of discussion and decision-making at the executive table
  • Advise the CEO and Executive team on a wide range of topics impacting business strategy and risk management
  • Elevate corporate communications on strategic issues including various dashboards, balanced scorecard and corporate performance data and analytics for Board reporting, and for corporate reporting cycles
  • Facilitate the development of the annual Business Plan, working collaboratively with the Treasury and Risk departments to develop an annual budget, corporate risk assessment, annual goals and performance targets
  • Oversee strategic business initiatives from development through successful execution under the guidance of the CEO
  • Ensure critical elements of the GTAA’s Strategic Plan are appropriately represented in prioritized strategic initiatives and annual budgets i.e. Innovation
  • Act as a key advisor to the Executive Team on real-time changes in the competitive landscape, global marketplace and external business environment
  • Engage with external business and industry experts to learn and influence business strategies
  • Lead a team that monitors execution of strategic corporate initiatives and progress reporting to the organization
  • Be a strategic advisor for key initiatives that impact long term growth; providing support in effectively executing financial analysis, competitive analysis, customer insights, and financial modeling of business opportunities
  • Lead the development of numerous formal long, mid, and short term planning documents in coordination with other business units ensuring profitability, sustainability and competitiveness of the organization
  • Drive the use of technology and data-driven decision-making to increase opportunities related to Strategic Plan
  • Support, coach, and advise business unit strategy on the pathways to execution and delivering performance that achieves intended outcomes and escalating key issues to the executive table
  • Provide Change Management leadership and guidance to ensure optimal outcomes in the deployment and understanding of the GTAA’s Corporate Strategies, initiatives and Corporate Goals
  • Model the GTAA leadership behaviours to support and further the business’ vision through building and development of diverse, multi-skilled team

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, economics, strategy, analytics, or other business-related field is required, or a combination of education and relevant experience
  • 7+ years of relevant experience in business or corporate development, partnerships development, management consulting, strategy or equivalent
  • 5+ years of management experience in leading teams and corporate strategy work
  • Exposure to airport planning, operations or commercial development preferred
  • Ability to obtain and retain a Transportation Security Clearance
  • Valid Ontario Driver’s License
