Key Responsibilities

The Specialist, HR and Engagement Communications is a foundational member of the HR Communications team and creates thoughtful, engaging, clear communications about the employee experience. This role partners with leaders in HR to build and drive communications strategies related to HR programs, including talent management, benefits and rewards, travel, employee engagement, and self-service tools. This team supports communications planning and execution for other corporate groups as well.

This is a Chicago-based position, that will require on average, two days per week in our downtown office.

  • Supports the Manager - HR and Engagement Communications on communications plans
  • Partner with internal subject matter experts and external vendor partners to create, edit, manage and publish timely information on United-sponsored benefits and programs
  • Manage timeline, calendar, scope and effectiveness of communication plans
  • Ensure communications materials are in line with United’s brand, tone, and voice
  • Oversee content creation and production of content on relevant Flying Together pages/sites
  • Produce and disseminate relevant content across multi-media channels including email, intranet, display screens and print materials
  • Lead communication deliverables relevant to HR initiatives and beta programs

Qualifications

What’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing or related field
  • Minimum of 2 years of related work experience
  • 1-2 years of project management experience
  • Ability to handle several projects at a time
  • Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and content development and management tools
  • Strong business writing and editing skills
  • Ability to work effectively & efficiently in cross-functional teams
  • Proactive, detail-oriented and well-organized
  • Forward-thinking, diligent and creative
  • On-call responsibilities will be required at various times of the year
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship

  • Experience focused on HR topics
  • SiteCore or other CMS/publishing platform
  • Acrobat Creative Suite
  • AP (Associated Press) style writing
  • Exceptional writing skills including the ability to harness style, tone, and voice to appeal to your target audience
