Job Description

Johnson Service Group (JSG) is recruiting for a, Senior Electrical Designer, for a 12-month contract assignment supporting a foreign nuclear design project based in Reston, VA.  This onsite role offers a W2 hourly base rate with time and a half for overtime. 

U.S. Citizenship is required
W2 hourly pay rate: $80.00 - $85.00 (according to experience)

Project Overview
Bechtel and Westinghouse Electric Company have partnered to deliver the first AP1000 nuclear power reactors in Poland.  As the EPC contractor, Bechtel will be providing the design for the Turbine Island and Balance of Plant as well as the construction of the entire facility.  This role will be based in Reston, VA, with periodic business travel to Poland offices and sites as required.  The position will require full time presence in the Reston office.  Part-time telework flexibility may be an option as the project progresses.

Responsibilities:
  • Electrical Physical Design (circuit and raceway).
  • Produce lower and higher tier drawings and documentation in accordance with established conceptual design and scope, modelling, including cable pull calculations, design of lighting using AGi32, grounding layout, grounding designs/calculations and lightning protection systems.
  • Develops specifications for equipment and material where deviation from standard documentation is required.
  • Responsible for raceway design, equipment location and layout, C&R schedule inputting and update, conduit and aboveground raceway design.
  • Ensuring that the electrical systems designs comply with all applicable installation codes, regulations, and standards.
  • May interface with Construction and Subcontractors.

Education / Experience:
  • Associate degree in Electrical Technology, Electrical Design, or similar field.
  • 8+ years of electrical design experience in nuclear plant design (power plant or DOE facility).
    • In lieu of degree, 15+ years of related design experience.
  • Experience with quality assurance programs and procedures such as ASME-NQA-1, MIL-Q-9858A, or ISO-9000.
  • Extensive knowledge and application of NEC code and ANSI/IEEE Standards.
  • Extensive knowledge of electrical raceway and electrical equipment layouts.
  • Extensive knowledge of industry-wide design tools, such as CAD 2D/3D, cable designing and routing software.
  • Must be capable of independent creative design using Bechtel and industry proven concepts and procedures.
  • Must have experience with an electronic Cable Management System and be able to input and complete corrections to the database.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office programs and other computer programs.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate and work well within a team.
  • Ability to cope with conflicting deadline, frequent interruptions, and multiple tasks.
  • Must be able to complete a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
  • Possess active security clearance or ability to obtain security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous experience with Bechtel standard programs.
  • Previous experience with the SETROUTE database program.
  • Familiar with all Engineering Department Procedures (EDP’s) and their application to projects.
  • Experience with Revit and SmartPlant 3D design tools.
  • Previous knowledge of Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAP’s).
  • Experience in construction interface and resolving field problems.
  • Experience with AP1000 Nuclear Power Plant Design.
