Job Summary
GKN Aerospace Filton specialises in the design and manufacture of large complex structural wing assemblies, detailed metallic components and wing systems for a combination of both civil and military aircraft.
We are seeking Primary Operative to join us on a 6-month secondment in our growing ribs value stream . The Primary Operative will operate as a multi-skilled, flexible worker to ensure maximum effectiveness and efficiency. You will be responsible for carrying out the required standard activities of your assigned tasks, in full compliance to the Work Instruction and/or Standard Operating Procedure, and without compromise to your own, and peers, safety.
The Primary Operative will be fully supported by their Team Leader, who will enable their training, coaching and quickly respond to them if they find any off-standard / quality issues.
As a primary operative you will be an integral part of the team performing a variety of tasks. You will be a skilled machinist operating 5 axis machines and performing and logging inspections as per instruction.You will also provide support to the Team Leader regarding technical expertise within the process for your zone(s) To resolve Quality concerns within your Zone along with assisting Team Leader in managing workload.

- Please note this vacancy is open only to current GKN Filton Employees and subcontractors working on-site*
- Ensure team are aware of the process and procedures, communicate and retrain where changes impact the original requirements
- Conduct the evaluation and endorsement of operator’s initial category application.
- Complete the inspection of team worked activities where the conformity inspection cannot be completed through individual certification.
- Ensure all phases/operations are fully confirmed, prior to release of parts from area/zone.
- Ensure First Article Inspection processes are carried out where applicable by the appropriate person with the relevant authorisation.
- Ensure customer protection is in place for all customer (internal or external) reported, non-conformance and customer protection boards are updated.
- Responsible for final inspections and reporting where there is a product or process deviation.
- Supporting the dispositioning of process and product deviations with the required information through the non-conformance management procedure a. Raising and amending the Quality Notification in the ERP system with all the relevant information
- Confirmation all physical work content and records are completed in accordance with the disposition decision.
- When required and as part of an agreed development plan, the Primary Operator will deputise for the Team Leader
Essential

- Have held a self-certification A Stamp for a minimum of 6 months
- Have successfully completed an apprenticeship, equivalent qualification or NVQ Level 3 with a core background as a machinist
- Train the trainer qualified
- Quality / inspection experience
- IT Literate with experience using MS packages including Excel
