Key Responsibilities

This position's primary purpose is to develop and maintain United's Alliance relationships with partner airlines and key internal collaborators. The relationship manager will be the primary point of contact for the airline partner carriers to run overall relationships issues and identify new strategic opportunities. Serve as a decision maker in negotiating, interpreting, and implementing contracts, collaborate with the partners and/or with other UA-internal collaborators to review and resolve any issues, and to implement process or term changes to minimize or eliminate any systemic issues. Responsible for identifying and pursuing new airline partnerships supporting United’s global network development

  • Monitors, maintains, and develops individual partnerships within the portfolio, including problem resolution and collaborator consensus building between the partners as well as within United
  • Continually assesses financial benefit of individual partnerships and develops tactics and strategies to maximize United's benefit
  • Responsible for contract negotiations and modifications for carriers within the geographic portfolio for existing, new and prospective partners
  • Advises managers on activities within the specified region that impact or may impact partnerships, and supports senior management interaction with regional partners
  • Identifies and cultivates new opportunities with existing and new partners

What’s Needed To Succeed (Minimum Qualifications)

  • Bachelor's degree or 4 years of relevant work experience
  • Minimum 3 years airline industry experience
  • Strong negotiating skills, excellent written and spoken communication skills, understanding of multiple perspectives and build consensus across diverse collaborators
  • Understanding of airline economics
  • Ability to understand, develop and influence relationships to bring about beneficial outcomes
  • Strong English language skills
  • Strong critical thinking, problem solving and analytical skills

What will help you propel from the pack (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Master's degree
  • Additional airline experience in related commercial areas such as Revenue Management, Network Planning, Finance, Sales/Marketing, Loyalty or Regulatory preferred
  • International study or professional experience in a multi-cultural environment preferred
  • Alliances experience a plus
