Position Summary:

Reporting to the Associate Director, Energy and Fleet with the Management the Manager, CUP and Cogen leads an in-house team and outsourced maintenance contractor to maintain optimal performance and reliability of Toronto Pearson’s water, sewer, gas utilities infrastructure, the Central Utilities Plant (CUP) and 117MW Cogeneration Facility (Cogen).

Key Accountabilities:


  • Provide optimum asset management and technical performance of the CUP and Cogeneration facility systems, including but not limited to boilers, Chillers, Hot & Chilled Water Piping, Gas & Steam Turbines, etc.
  • Support projects intended to refurbish, upgrade and/or replace CUP and Cogen equipment
  • Investigate and resolve technical issues for the rapid response to maintenance issues related to the CUP and Cogen equipment and systems
  • Ensure Cogeneration facility is available to provide cooling, heating and power to the GTAA to support operations of the airport
  • Develop strong customer/partner relationships to facilitate the strong
  • Lead a well-managed maintenance team for Water, Sewer and Gas Utilities, CUP and Cogen within budget and aligned to the Strategic Plan
  • Plan, recruit, coach and mentor direct reports to lead a team which will support and emulate the values of the corporation working relationships with the internal clients and external customers
  • Assist in the development of the 5-year business plan by supplying the plans for CUP, Cogen and Utilities (potable water, sewer, gas)
  • Build the annual OPEX Budget for CUP, Utilities and Cogen maintenance, and the Units Budget through monthly reviews and variance analysis


The salary for this management non-unionized position is competitive based on the successful candidate’s qualifications.

Qualifications:


  • University Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical or Stationary/Power Engineering, Certified Engineering Technologist
  • 5 years’ experience boiler and chiller plant, halocarbons regulations, power generation and people leadership within a unionized environment
  • Eng, CET or Stationary Eng Class 1/2
  • 3 years’ experience in People Management (direct report or cross-functional)
  • Demonstrated experience working in a customer centric environment
  • Able to obtain and retain Transportation Security Clearance at the designated level for the position


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • High level financial skill with sound understanding of operation expense and capital expenditure as it relates to balance sheet implications
  • Working knowledge of Life Cycle Asset Management
  • Knowledge of Project Management principles
  • English fluency in oral and written communication
  • Continuous improvement management system training
  • Contracts, legal collateral organization, and written word interpretation
  • Industry trends and technology developments
  • Restoration and sustainment capital planning
  • Ability to interpret specifications, building codes and assess compliance
  • Resourcefulness and professional tact in dealing with complex and high-pressure situations
  • People management and coaching proficiency
  • Leadership and influence in the absence of authority


The GTAA is a federally regulated private sector. The Government of Canada has suspended mandatory vaccination requirement for federally regulated transportation sector workers. The GTAA continues to monitor government and health developments relating to COVID -19 and may re-introduce the Vaccination and proof of Vaccination requirements in the Policy at any time.
