STS Technical Services is hiring a Senior Stress Engineer in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Job Description

The Senior Aerospace Stress Engineer will be an experienced professional with significant expertise in analyzing, certifying, and testing metallic and composite primary structures within the aerospace industry. This role requires serving as a subject matter expert in stress engineering, providing leadership and guidance to a team of engineers, and ensuring compliance with certification standards and regulations.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Act as the subject matter expert in stress engineering for metallic primary structures.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to a team of contract and associate stress engineers working on certification, analysis, and testing.
  • Write certification stress reports and collaborate with FAA DER’s (Designated Engineering Representatives) as needed.
  • Utilize both classic hand analysis methods (such as Bruhn, Peery, Roark, ESDU) and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) techniques for structural analysis.
  • Present analysis findings and assumptions in a clear and rational manner.
  • Take ownership of assigned projects and see them through to completion in a dynamic and challenging environment.
  • Provide recommendations and status updates to management regarding project progress.

Education, Work Experience, Certification, and/or Licensure:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • FAA DER certification is a major plus but not required (14 CFR 23/25).
  • 10+ years of experience required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficiency in 3D solid modeling software, such as CATIA v5 or Unigraphics.
  • Experience with programming languages such as Python, VB, and Matlab.
  • Expertise in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software, including NASTRAN and ABAQUS.
  • Proficient computer skills with MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Project.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in environments with equipment noise, heat, cold, dust, and aircraft equipment or fuel odors.
  • Capability to perform physical tasks such as standing, sitting, squatting, walking, bending, climbing ladders, reaching, or stretching for prolonged periods.
  • Adherence to regulatory requirements (FAA, OSHA, DOT, EPA, etc.).
  • Normal auditory, visual, and speech abilities required.
  • Capacity to comprehend and adhere to management directions and safety instructions.
  • Effective communication skills in Business English language.
  • Ability to lift, carry, or move items up to 10 lbs. without assistance.
  • Capacity to handle materials/items/equipment weighing up to 50lbs or more with the use of company-provided reach assistance technology.
