WestJet is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Intermediate QA Analyst reporting into our IT OCC Tools team where we build a range of critical software products for the Operations Control Center that help get planes flying and guests to their destinations. This individual has the desire to grow and learn new testing frameworks, methodologies, automation tools and programming languages. The position will involve UI, API and E2E analysis and testing; therefore curiosity, intelligence, an open mind and flexibility are essential. As an Intermediate Test Analyst on this team, you will participate in requirements analysis, test case development, manual and automated execution of tests, defect management, and other Software Testing Lifecycle related activities.

Key deliverables include:

  • Work collaboratively with the product team, developers, and key stakeholders to continuously evolve team processes
  • Maintain a positive attitude and contribute to the cohesion and effectiveness of the team
  • Collaborate effectively with Product Managers, Product Owners, Business Analysts, Developers, and integration partners as required
  • Perform functional, integration, regression and system testing including compatibility and/or coordinate with support teams to complete performance, security, failover and recovery or other types of testing (i.e. smoke and sanity) as required based on the project
  • Perform manual and script automated API tests using ReadyAPI, Postman or RESTAssured
  • Develop and execute UI automated tests using Selenium, Playwright, or Cypress utilizing programming languages such as Python, Javascript or Java
  • Assist in project/release/sprint planning/scrum for development of test strategies and plans
  • Develop and execute test cases that are in line with the business quality requirements
  • Based on project needs, identify, and utilize appropriate testing techniques such as functional & non-functional testing, risk-based testing, exploratory testing, white & black box testing, manual and automated testing
  • Utilize various automated testing tools to script data creation or automated functional tests (UI and API)
  • Defect management including the identification, logging, triaging, prioritizing, and tracking of issues
  • Evaluate, document, and communicate testing results to stakeholders to enable them to make decisions regarding project health with respect to QA
  • Other duties as assigned

Experience and qualifications:

  • 5+ years’ experience as a software QA analyst or in a similar role
  • 3+ years’ experience as an Intermediate QA is preferable
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
  • Experience in Agile development methodologies and working within Agile teams
  • Strong expertise in UI test automation frameworks and tools such as Playwright, Robot, and Selenium
  • Proficiency in API test automation frameworks and tools, such as Postman, RestAssured, or SoapUI
  • Experience with Azure DevOps Test Plans module, complete Azure devops pipelines, releases etc. for test case creation and execution
  • Experience creating clear and concise documentation in the form of test strategies/plans/test cases/scenarios/checklists and defects
  • Experience analyzing the quality needs for projects, estimating the associated resources and effort, managing the execution, mitigating, and communicating risks, and reporting on the test results
  • Understanding and practical application of software QA practices as it applies to different development methodologies
  • Experience scripting, maintaining, and executing automated Web Service and UI tests using ReadyAPI or Postman and Selenium, Cypress, Playwright or RESTAssured
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills using all mediums and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization in a clear and concise way
  • Dedicated to improving and exceeding business and guest experiences along with the team level and personal goals
  • Experience with SQL querying relational databases such as Oracle or MS SQL Server
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex situations and provide practical solutions
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Proven ability to meet timelines while delivering quality work
  • Showing initiative to identify and champion ideas for improving efficiency and effectiveness of development processes and follow through to completion of ideas including documentation
  • Airline domain experience would be an asset
