Role Introduction

Reports To: Head of Sustainable Development

The role will be responsible for overseeing and driving sustainability communications and engagement initiatives for both internal and external stakeholders. This includes developing communication strategies, ensuring the quality and distribution of sustainability-related communications, and reviewing stakeholder engagement activities. Additionally, the role will support the department in building strategic partnerships and establishing a strong presence in priority areas. They will also collaborate with internal teams to lead and deliver training and capacity building sessions on sustainability topics.

Key Responsibilities

  • Sustainability Communications
  • As the planner and guardian of sustainability related communications for the company.
  • As the primary contact from the Group Sustainability Department to provide direction, review, advice, and approval on sustainability related communications for working with Marketing, Corporate, Internal, and other relevant communications teams.
  • Work with internal teams and external resources to develop the strategy for and oversee the development and distribution of sustainability-related creative contents for the Group.
  • Develop and revise sustainable development communications guideline based on latest best practices, legislations, requirements, and risks related to greenwashing. Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in greenwashing legislations and work with internal teams to implement effective measures to prevent greenwashing.
  • Develop and manage the sustainability communications calendar, based on key initiatives and project milestones, and to coordinate production and communications efforts with relevant communications teams.
  • Sustainability capacity building
  • Work with internal teams and external resources to develop and deliver, where needed, training and capacity building programmes for colleagues to empower them with selected sustainability topics including circular economy, climate risks and other topics.
  • Support the development and engagement of sustainability champions networks across business units in the Headquarters and out stations.
  • Stakeholders Management
  • Responsible to lead sustainability stakeholders engagement and materiality assessment review at least once every three years.
  • Develop strategic partnerships with government bodies, non-profit organizations, industry associations, value chain players and media on sustainable development initiatives.
  • Work with Cathay’s insights and internal engagement team in tracking insights about stakeholders’ perceptions and expectations of our sustainability performance, and conducts tests on potential propositions related to sustainability.
  • Represent Cathay Pacific Group in sustainable development events, forums, committees or task forces.
  • Organise and participate in networking activities that would enable sustainability advancement.
  • Handle ESG related investors inquiries. Work closely with the Finance and Corporate Affairs Department in developing ESG related Investor Relations engagement strategy and execution.
  • Lead the design, organization, and coordination of both internal and external sustainability-related events, as well as direct the Group's participation in major industry events or conferences.
  • Sustainability Project Support
  • Support sustainable development initiatives and projects with relevant departments, in topics including but not limited to supply chain ESG performance, and anti-Modern Slavery.
  • Support the team to provide advice to business units on sustainable development initiatives.

Requirements

  • 5-8 years of relevant experience in corporate sustainability communications and engagement, project management and strategy development (previous knowledge and experience within the aviation industry would be a distinct advantage).
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, preferably in Environmental Management, Sustainable Development, Communications, Marketing or a related field.
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing comprehensive communications strategies across various channels, including traditional media, digital platforms, and social media. Related experience with a specific focus on environment or sustainability topics is a distinct advantage.
  • Proficiency in managing external partnerships and collaborations with NGOs, industry associations, and other stakeholders to enhance the organization's sustainability efforts and drive collective impact.
  • Experience in crisis communications and issues management, with the ability to effectively navigate and respond to challenging situations in a timely and strategic manner, especially for sustainability related matters.
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with internal stakeholders, including executives, employees, and cross-functional teams, to drive sustainability engagement and foster a culture of sustainability within the organization.
  • Familiarity with digital marketing and analytics tools, allowing for the measurement and evaluation of communication campaigns and initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of branding and messaging, with the ability to maintain consistency and align communications with the company's overall brand identity and sustainability positioning.
  • Well-versed in Hong Kong and international environmental laws especially those related to communications and marketing, ESG disclosures requirements and regulatory processes
  • A passionate and interest in sustainable development, environmental protection and the aviation industry, and committed to make a difference
  • Strong sense of and proactive alertness to potential environmental and sustainable development issues
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, both written and oral, including the ability to produce and deliver professional presentations
  • A good communicator, able to champion sustainability causes within the company successfully, and to convey and protect the company’s position externally
  • Excellent planning, organizing, and influencing skills
  • Fluent in spoken English and Cantonese, good written English and written Chinese. Mandarin is a plus.
