Contract: 18 month FTC/Secondment

In a nutshell


Known internally as an Operational Excellence Manager, you'll work within the Working Capital team, and be responsible for deep diving our processes, mapping, re-designing and documenting them to ensure they deliver improvements to the teams ways of working. This role will providing you with an opportunity to own performance improvements at Virgin Atlantic, enhance the operational efficiency of Working Capital and lead a program to provide assurance over our internal controls maturity.


You'll be responsible for improving processes through the standardisation and automation of Finance activities. These changes will enable us to deliver an enhanced service, together with cost and or time saving opportunities. Deliver training to both the onshore and offshore teams on process changes, as well as documenting and acquiring sign off ensuring appropriate internal controls are imbedded.


Collaborating with other teams across the business, coordinating the relevant parties, running meetings, raising issues, tracking progress and producing weekly status reports.


You will support the creation of a continuous improvement culture within finance and liaise with the broader business to ensure changes are appropriately prioritised.


Day to day


  • Collaborate closely with the process and control owners in Finance but tapping into your expertise to limit the demands on their time. Possessing the ability to articulate complex finance requirements in a simple manner to non-finance professionals.
  • Work across the whole of Working Capital, helping to understand where processes break down, find opportunities, and bring people together to realise efficiencies.
  • Support a continued move towards data driven decisions, understanding our range of systems and metrics, and building processes to support our teams' decision-making processes.
  • The key influencer to deliver the right changes within the Working Capital team that ensure we see a step change in capability and automation
  • Identify and deliver continuous improvement initiatives that transform existing processes, simplifying, and rationalising across VAA and VAH.
  • Running retrospective reviews with the finance team to ensure implementation is as planned. This will also include sharing regular updates regarding the progress of key transformation projects across Working Capital with focus on adherence to delivery timelines.
  • Accountable for ensuring that all initiatives have the required finance process documentation - which is accurate and completed to a high standard.
  • Deliver all working capital recommendations that were identified as part of the Control Audit and ensure there is a delivery plan against each objective
  • Build cross functional relationships both within Working Capital and Procurement, as well as within the wider Finance team and business.
  • Seek opportunities where engagement across the business can be improved and look to influence those improvements.


About you


Are you a systems and financial process expert? Can you actively embrace change and manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritising conflicting demands? Then this could be the role for you!


Alongside the above, we're looking for the following:


  • Excellent communication skills, both spoken and written
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Knowledge of accountancy principles is required or proven experience operating in a Working Capital function
  • Interpersonal skills with the ability to liaise with staff at all levels
  • Proven experience of driving process changes
