The Return-to-Service (RTS) Team Leader provides leadership that creates a team atmosphere where members are challenged to maintain the highest quality assurance standards and provide excellent customer service. This position directs, coordinates and supervises assigned team members to ensure that departmental process are applied in a timely and efficient manner; and provides guidance, supervision and on-OJT for less experienced team members. The team leader performs all RTS inspector functions and performs as RII when applicable; assist with developing, revising and reviewing all Quality Assurance procedures content compliance and efficiency; and acts as a positive role model by mentoring team members, supporting company and shop decisions, and communicating goals and objectives.

Essential Job Functions

  • Manages team by scheduling and assigning work and monitoring day-to-day activities of team members. Holds team members accountable to Duncan Aviation approved departmental policies and procedures.
  • Performs all Return-to-Service functions for various aircraft, engine and/or components, verifying and reviewing logbook entries and research documents, providing customer service related to return-to-service issues, inspecting physical product, performing functional tests, and issuing return-to-service directive for aircraft. Solicits information and suggestions from team members regarding Inspection policies and procedures and departmental goals. Performs as RII as applicable.
  • Promotes growth and development of assigned team members to promote team cohesiveness and trust by monitoring and evaluating team members’ performance in a professional, positive, accurate and timely manner. Recommends training needs and programs to the department management and identifies and recommends technical and non-technical training opportunities for team members. Mentors team members. Ensures that training and development of less experienced staff is accomplished. Participates in personal and leadership development opportunities and demonstrates leadership and professionalism at all times.
  • Serves as a liaison with the FAA in support of company personnel in ensuring compliance with FAR’s. When assigned, fills in during chief inspector’s absence. Represents Duncan Aviation as a contact person for inspection issues with internal and external customers. Participates and leads various meetings and serves on various internal committees.
  • Responds to internal and external customers’ requests and inquiries related to aircraft maintenance, inspection, interpretation of regulatory compliance issues, and documentation requirements. Serves as liaison with the FAA in support of company personnel in ensuring compliance with FAR’s. Willingly and effectively shares regulatory and inspection process knowledge with less experienced technicians to foster their development, ensure accurate work and support of the team’s goals.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management.


Job Specific Requirements

  • Licenses/Certificates: Airframe and Powerplant Certificate or Repairman’s Certificate; RII designation; valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record: Respirator Fit qualified
  • Attendance: Regularly scheduled attendance required
  • Physical: Occasionally lifts up to 50 lbs.; reads small print; hears sounds associated with mechanical deficiencies; repetitive motion; tolerates products and materials associated with component maintenance; tolerates working in confined spaces and heights above four feet; tolerates standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching and sitting
  • Environmental: Tolerates working in noisy environments


Education And Experience

  • High School Graduate or equivalent
  • Two years previous Duncan Aviation RTS Inspector experience or equivalent required
  • Minimum one year previous supervisory experience preferred
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Software (i.e. Word, Access, Excel, etc.)
