VP Operations

We are looking for a VP of Operations to join us at Leonardo in Edinburgh. Leonardo is a global leader in defence electronics and delivers mission critical systems for situational awareness, electronic warfare and surveillance across land, sea and air. The Radar and Advanced Targeting line of business, based in Edinburgh, is uniquely positioned as one of the world's top manufacturers of radars, lasers and infra-red countermeasure systems.

The VP Operations will lead Operations for the Edinburgh based business in partnership with the site SVP and other senior stakeholders. The role will lead and co-ordinate all Operations site based activities including Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain Management, Manufacturing Engineering, Health Safety & Environment (HSE), Security and Facilities Management. Reporting to the UK Operations Director, the role leads a direct team of >500. The individual is also a member of the UK Operations Leadership Team and supports delivery of the Operations strategy in the UK business.

What you will do

  • As part of the Edinburgh site leadership team achieve the business objectives and ensure a safe and positive working environment for the site based Operations team.
  • In collaboration with the UK Operations Leadership Team, define the long-term vision for working in Operations UK and translate that into tangible improvement actions.
  • Ensure Operations has a continuous improvement culture. Lead site based activities for the Digital Factory programme.
  • Accountable for all Manufacturing elements of the Manufacturing Plan, including Supply Chain Management. Ensure seamless transition to Manufacturing of new products.
  • Manage and optimise inventory in accordance with lean manufacturing principles and business targets.
  • Ensure Quality, Health Safety & Environment (HSE) and Security governance and compliance aspects are managed across the site.
  • Lead the site Operations Team positively and provide a high quality professional service to the business. Ensure Operations team behaviours and attitudes reflect business values, apply appropriate professional standards, set targets and review individual performance regularly.
  • Ensure the Operations areas and functions are organised effectively to deliver the business.

What we are looking for

  • Demonstrated performance in similar role. Numerate and analytical with a high level of drive and commitment – results focussed
  • Experience in businesses that are manufacturing complex electro/mechanical products is highly desirable
  • Experience in transformation, continuous improvement and latest digital manufacturing technologies is highly desirable
  • Understanding and awareness of the requirements of Quality & HSE in a complex regulatory environment and business
  • Good communicator, with strong written, verbal and presentation skills
  • Degree in relevant subject
