Role Introduction

Reports to: Associate General Counsel (Corporate and Compliance)

Group Legal is responsible for providing high quality legal services to the Cathay Pacific Group and is mandated to provide legal services in the most efficient and cost-effective manner.

Group Legal is seeking a high calibre corporate, regulatory and intellectual property lawyer to join its corporate and compliance practice group. This role is responsible for providing legal and regulatory support across Cathay Pacific Group, including Asia Miles and other subsidiaries. As Legal Counsel/Senior Legal Counsel, you will be working in a challenging and dynamic industry, across multiple jurisdictions. Key Responsibilities

• You will need to be a good team player who is able to work effectively with business units and be seen as a trusted-advisor. You will need to have a good understanding of corporate objectives and aims, be able to identify and assess legal risk, and provide sound and pragmatic legal advice that is solution-oriented for multiple business units in a fast-paced environment.
• You will be responsible for monitoring changes in laws and regulations affecting the group’s business, and developing and implementing policies, procedures and training to ensure adherence to applicable laws, regulations and industry standards. You will need to be able to independently advise and guide business teams on a diverse range of legal subjects, including corporate, regulatory compliance, and intellectual property matters. Further, you will on occasion be instructing and working alongside external law firms on larger projects.
• You will need to be able to work with stakeholders at all levels across the organisation and know when to escalate risks, and advise on complex legal and compliance issues. You will also need to have a solid understanding of corporate governance and decision-making processes within a listed group.
• You will serve as an ambassador of compliance culture, and play a lead role in fostering integrity, responsibility, accountability and inclusivity across the organisation.
  
  

Requirements

• A minimum of 8 years of post-qualification experience as a qualified lawyer in Hong Kong or other internationally recognised jurisdictions.
• At least 6 years’ experience specialising in corporate, regulatory compliance and intellectual property in multinational companies or reputable law firms. Prior In-house experience is an advantage but is not required.
• Technically strong and able to provide legal advice to the business on a diverse range of legal and regulatory compliance matters.
• Able to support on IP portfolio management.
• Keen attention to detail, and able to see and understand the bigger picture to advise the business pragmatically.
• Commercially savvy with excellent written and verbal communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with people at all levels and work in a multi-cultural work environment.
• Possesses an entrepreneurial spirit, willing to learn and continuously innovates to achieve great results.
• Able to work proactively and independently with minimum supervision, can effectively prioritise work under time pressure, with strong project and time management skills.
• Mature and well organised and has a high sense of responsibility and accountability for their work.
• Fluent in spoken and written English and Chinese. Fluent Putonghua is beneficial but not required.
• Proficiency in office applications.
