Job Description

Johnson Service Group, a nationally award-winning staffing firm, is recruiting a Senior Systems Engineer for a for a high growth cleantech company in San Diego.

The position is on-site | Direct Hire | Salary range: $110K-$140K depending on experience | Candidate must have authorization to work with in the US as our client isn’t able to provide current or future sponsorship.

Job Overview: As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in developing and integrating system-level software for power electronics, energy storage, electric vehicle (EV) chargers, and auxiliary components. You will be responsible for defining system architectures, implementing communication protocols, and exploring innovative machine learning applications to enhance product functionality and user experience.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain system-level software to seamlessly integrate operations across power electronics, energy storage solutions, EV chargers, and additional components.
  • Design and define system architecture and communication protocols to ensure robust and scalable operations.
  • Investigate and implement machine learning techniques based on system usage and environmental data to optimize performance and efficiency.
  • Draft and present detailed control solution proposals to engineering leadership for approval and feedback.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to define subsystem requirements and ensure integration compatibility.
  • Conduct thorough validation of system software and operational performance to align with product objectives.
  • Design and execute comprehensive system and subsystem tests to confirm fulfillment of all technical requirements.
  • Provide expert troubleshooting and debugging support for system-level issues while guiding subsystem development.
  • Efficiently integrate and interface with commercial off-the-shelf components using APIs and other interfaces.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering, with at least five years of relevant experience in system controls development.
  • Proficiency in Linux, Python, SQL, C#, and C++.
  • In-depth knowledge of CAN, RS-485, RS-232, and Modbus networks.
  • Strong understanding of network communication protocols such as UDP, TCP, Telnet, and SSH.
  • Proven ability to integrate third-party products using APIs.
  • Experienced in developing test specifications and Design Verification Plan & Report (DVP&R).
Skills and Abilities:
  • Hands-on experience with assembly tools, laboratory equipment, and test setup configurations.
  • Capability to analyze system data comprehensively and compile detailed reports for various stakeholders.
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills for complex systems.
  • Ability to work autonomously and collaborate effectively as needed.
  • Creative, analytical thinker with exceptional communication and documentation skills.
Additional Skills:
  • Experience in front-end web development and database creation.
  • Familiarity with AWS or other cloud services.
  • Knowledge of OCPP communications for EV chargers.
  • Experience applying machine learning and other AI techniques in a technical environment.
