Position Summary:

Reporting to the Associate Director, Media Relations, this position provides day to day media relations, issues management and external support. The role also recommends communications strategy and influences the delivery of communications tactics in accordance with the business requirements of internal business owners and other partners. The incumbent will support communications projects, working with corporate communications, digital media, innovation, partner relations and other teams as needed to drive effective communications results.

Key Accountabilities:


  • Act as a media spokesperson on a range of airport topics, developing positioning and messaging and providing comments, statements and interviews to media
  • Bring a consumer-first editorial sensibility to the table, advising on and contributing to social-media posts, video and written storytelling
  • Support communications plans, using internal resources and external partners in support of organizational and business goals
  • Implement tactics developed in communications plans by researching and developing positioning, writing a variety of materials and, where applicable, guiding internal resources on supporting tactics
  • Evaluate and respond to operational issues and emergencies during business hours and while on call, providing communications support and media response
  • Evaluate communications requests from internal clients and external partners using analytical and innovative thinking, provide strategic counsel on communications tactics, timing and measurement to ensure effective results
  • Provide measurement and reporting to demonstrate effectiveness of programs and tactics


Compensation for this non-unionized position is competitive based on the successful candidate’s qualifications.

Qualifications:


  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in journalism, public relations, communications or a related field or an equivalent of education and experience
  • 3+ years experience in news media and/or corporate communications including preparing messaging or editorial material for public delivery
  • Demonstrated experience working in a diverse, complex, multi-stakeholder and customer-centric environment
  • Able to obtain and retain Transportation Security Clearance at the designated level for the position


Key Accountabilities:


  • Ability to analyze, process and interpret large amounts of often technical content to tease out narratives and storylines
  • Ability to work with confidential information
  • Superior editorial-style writing and editing skills for multiple channels, including public-facing channels (e.g., traditional and social media)
  • Strong interpersonal skills and relationship management experience
  • Demonstrated time management, organizational and prioritization skills
  • Detail oriented with an ability to work in a dynamic, fast paced environment
  • Strong proficiency with computer applications such as Microsoft’s Office Suite of software
  • Ability and willingness to take part in a shared weekly (evening and weekends) on-call rotation schedule
  • French language skills an asset
