The Safety Specialist will play a lead role in taking the business forward with improved systems and processes with an emphasis on managing and reducing risk to improve safety and security with an emphasis on improving systems and processes. The Standards and Safety Specialist will also support the safe and secure operation of the business, leading the way in safety planning, administration and reporting; safety culture; assurance processes; incident investigation; and risk management.


This position is based at our New Zealand Head Office - Auckland.


Main Accountabilities & Responsibilities

  • Plan and organise safety, security, environment related programs and initiatives;
  • Maintain appropriate relationships with relevant client and industry stakeholders;
  • Investigate and monitor operational incidents and occurrences;
  • Ensure accurate records are kept in relation to audits, hazard identification, risk assessments, incidents and their investigations;
  • Monitor incident and occurrence trends;
  • Perform hazard identifications, risk assessments and audits of the business;
  • Proactively identify safety, security, environment weaknesses, recommend and implement corrective actions;
  • Develop policies, procedures and training to comply with client, company and legislative requirements;
  • Coach staff, supervisors and management where appropriate on safety, security and environment related matters, initiatives and implementations;
  • Conduct reviews of procedures to improve safety and security, and drive continuous improvement processes;
  • Ensure systems are being followed to verify that staff are current and maintaining their technical and core occupational knowledge and skills;
  • Assist in identifying potential training needs relating to safety, security and compliance;
  • Complete all standard and additional reports and administration autonomously and in a timely manner;
  • Plan and deliver safety training courses personally, where necessary.


Experience and Competencies

  • Experience in a safety role, or similar role and ideally aviation and/or ground operations experience;
  • Working knowledge of New Zealand aviation regulations, airport and airline operational policies and procedures;
  • Working knowledge of Australia and New Zealand WH&S legislation;
  • Working knowledge of risk management;
  • Proficient utilisation of the Microsoft Office suite;
  • Superior observational skills and attention to detail;
  • Highly developed planning, organisational and time management skills;
  • Appropriate Safety or Aviation diploma or above qualifications required;
  • Lead Auditor training or qualification;
  • Desirable - Investigator and/or training qualification.
