Position Summary:

Reporting to the Director, Aviation Safety Regulations & Performance and dotted line to the Accountable Executive (COO)this position is responsible for championing the development, implementation, maintenance and monitoring of the Aviation Services Safety Management Systems and the associated Quality Assurance Program.

Key Accountabilities:


    • Lead the development, implementation, monitoring and continuous improvement of all elements related to the Aviation Safety Management System (AVS-SMS) program to ensure compliance with legislation (CARs) and Transport Canada Requirements
    • Maintain a system to receive reports on safety concerns, analysis of incidents and accidents and recommending/coordinating corrective measures including the feedback to employees
    • Maintain and continuously improve the QA program for the system components of the SMS program
    • Maintain relationships with partners, including leading regular meetings to discuss issues related to program health and compliance
    • Produce progress and program health check reports for the accountable executive and senior management
    • Recommend amendments to operating, policies, procedures and standards
    • Lead and develop a team passionate about teamwork
    • Lead for the Local Runway Safety Action Team.
    • Management and oversight of the Aviation SMS Program and the following components:
      • Aviation SMS Manual;
      • Hazard register content;
      • Safety Risk Profile;
      • Awareness campaign development;
      • Input Aviation SMS related data into database;
      • Manage and Chair Aviation SMS Working Group
      • Quality Assurance Program
    • Provide input to national and international regulatory bodies to influence SMS development
    • Responsible for being a customer centric Leader with respect to the Mission, Vision, Values and Beliefs


This role is responsible for developing and maintaining relationships internal and external to the GTAA to help drive the successful implementation of the SMS.

The salary for this non-unionized position is competitive based on the successful candidate’s qualifications.

Qualifications:


    • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Aviation Studies, Airport Management or equivalent education and/or work experience
    • 5 years of proven experience in an airport management, airport operations, airline operations and/or other relevant area
    • 5 years’ experience with the Canadian Aviation Regulations, Safety Management Systems and Quality Assurance Program Management at an airport of a similar size.
    • 2 years’ Leadership with People Management experience, preferable in a matrix organization and multiple operations experience
    • Valid Ontario Provincial Driver’s License and be able to obtain a “DA” Airside Vehicle Operator’s Permit within 30 days of appointment
    • Able to obtain and retain a Transportation Security Clearance

The GTAA is a federally-regulated private sector corporation. The Government of Canada has suspended mandatory vaccination requirement for federally regulated transportation sector workers. The GTAA continues to monitor government and health developments relating to COVID -19 and may re-introduce the Vaccination and proof of Vaccination requirements in the Policy at any time.
